About Bluetooth in iPod Touch

iPod Touch 2nd Gen Blutooth suport iPhone OS 3.0 iPhone OS 3.0 update brings stereo Bluetooth support to the 2nd generation iPod Touch, although it will only work with compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones or speakers. You wont be able to use just about any Bluetooth device with it as reported by many users. The iPhone 3.0 unlocks Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with support for wireless streaming 2-channel audio with A2DP, wireless accessory control, and peer-to-peer connections.

It’s still very crippled as most of you might not even be able to use that Bluetooth hands free headset you got for your cell phone, to use with your  iPod Touch to Skype, which is really unfair to be honest as Bluetooth is supposed to be an open protocol. You can get the Motorola S9, if your current Bluetooth headphones are not compatible with your iPod Touch.

The Broadcom BCM4325 wireless communications chip in iPod Touch which provides the Bluetooth capabilities also has an FM transmitter in it which still doesn’t work even after the OS 3.0 update. You might have to wait for OS 4.0 to unlock it.

  6. Does anyone know if there is a way to use this Bluetooth feature in playing our I-Pod touch music through our cars with the bluetooth feature? This was the main reason I bought the upgrade and I can’t seem to make it work. Come on guys at Apple. You guys are smart enough to make this happen.

    1. I have successfully connected my iPad Touch with my Motorola T505 hands free unit to broadcast over FM to the car stereo. The sound quality is adequate but not anywhere near as good as the cassette adapter. I live in Toronto and the FM Band is saturated with stations both local and distance so getting a station lock that will last for more than few minutes seems to be the biggest, and most annoying, issue.

    1. it can be used for bluetooth headphones, but not for the mic so far as I can tell. Perhaps one of these other headsets would have a working mic.

  9. SOmehow when I use facebook on my ipod touch (bearing in mind there is access in and out of my email too) and click in and out of my email something has accessed my email and sent out spam mainly about viagra and diets to all my contacts. How is this happening and is it that the IPOD Touch is open to viruses? IS there no firewall on IPOD touch and is it safe to use for surfing facebook etc?

  12. You need to have full access to a wi-fi connection, a good app to use is BookDictionary. When downloaded it will give you a ftp Here you enter a given ftp address into your address bar which brings up an upload sight for your wi-fi where the itouch will download the books automatically. Takes a bit of fiddling but its nice when you finally manage it. Another good app is stanza, Hope this helps

    1. You’ll have to delete everything to set it up with iTunes. In any case, it’s always a good idea to format and do a fresh start on a second hand device.
