Analyst says Apple sold 1.5 Million iPhone 4s on Launch Day

1 Million iPhone 4

According to Oppenheimer’s Yair Reiner, Apple has sold around 1.5 Million iPhone 4s on launch day. In contrast, iPad had sold 3 Million units in 28 days, but that was in the US alone and the last generation iPhones took around 3 days to sell as many units. Here’s the math Yair did for his estimates:

  • 600,000 pre-ordered in the U.S.
  • plus 100,000 non- reserved units sold day of at Apple stores (average 500 per store)
  • plus 50,000 sold into Best Buy (~45 per store, according to our checks).
  • Then multiply by two for international.

Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster thinks that Apple will sell 1 Million to 1.5 Million units in 3 days, which would equal the timeframe it took for Apple to sell 1 Million iPhone 3G and 3GS back then.

Apple hasn’t released the official sales figures yet, but these numbers seem very likely to be correct, specially after seeing the pictures of the lengthy lines outside Apple Stores. What do you think?
