It hasn’t been much time since Apple launched Lion, Mac OS X 10.7, to the general public. There have been cries of various issues, specifically the unreliability of WiFi connections in Lion, due to which Apple has hurriedly released the first update, 10.7.1 to the general public. Weirdly, this build wasn’t even released to developers before general availability today while OS X 10.7.2 was seeded to developers. Read more...

One of the first things many people do after a fresh install of OS X Lion is to install VLC player because it plays almost every video format under the sun. As helpful as it is, VLC player is not easy on the eyes plus not everyone likes it. A better option is to install Perian, the swiss army for QuickTime. Perian is like those codec packages you find for Windows that enable native playback of all popular video formats in the default video player as well as in other places such as Quick Look. Also, did we mention it’s free? Read more...

One of the major changes in OS X 10.7 Lion has been that Apple took a big step to hide scroll bars in windows by default. They only show when you’re scrolling else you’re very likely to get lost on what your position is while viewing a document. Apple has done this in an attempt to unify iOS and OS X scroll behavior but it doesn’t really work for everyone. Read more...

While Apple’s latest desktop OS, Lion, is full of goodies that are best accessed with a Magic Trackpad or a Magic Mouse, there are ways to make them accessible through other means as well. Let’s face it – not everyone of us Lion users have a touch input device or even prefer using one ( Magic Mouse users would know what I’m talking about ). So, here’s a quick simple trick for those users out there which lets you access Launchpad, the new slick iOS like application launcher in Lion, with just a flick of the mouse. Read more...
