TwitkaFly is a jailbreak app that allows a user to send and reply to tweets right from the springboard, without having to open the twitter or tweetbot app on their iOS device. The app works on any jailbroken device with iOS 4 or higher, including iPod, iPhone and the iPad.

How To: Install Twitter Widget For Notification Center In iOS 5 [Guide]

Apple introduced iOS 5 less than 2 weeks back and released the first beta to developers with over 200 new features. Not long after that, Dev Team managed to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 1 with the same Limera1n exploit used for iOS 4.x which allowed Cydia developers to start developing tweaks for the new iOS. Without a doubt, iOS 5 Notification Center has caught the foremost attention of these developers with back to back widgets and customization releases in the last couple of days.

Today, yet another widget for Notification Center came out which integrates your Twitter account into the Notification Center. Its called WeeTwitter and shows you a basic timeline of your twitter stream. Like other widgets, this one also needs you to jailbreak iOS 5 before install. However, it isn’t located on any Cydia repo yet so you need to install it manually using the following steps:

Step 1:

Open up Cydia and Install iFile (shareware is fine).

Step 2 :

Click here (while viewing this page in Mobile Safari) and when it asks, open it in iFile.

Step 3:

While prompted by iFile, simply install the .deb file and re-spring.

Disable “Quick Bar” In Twitter 3.3 With Twizzler [Cydia Tweak]

Official Twitter app for iPhone / iPad just got updated to v3.3 and with it came a big annoyance. Yes thats right, I call it a “big” annoyance coz it actually screws up the whole minimalistic design of Twitter iPhone app. Its called the “Quick Bar” or a trend bar, whatever they want us to call it but most definitely, we are not buying it at all. Its basically a translucent notification bar at the top of your timeline that shows Twitter’s beloved and promoted trends (or Ads) which are most of the time, pretty lame. What’s more annoying is that it keeps showing up each time you tap the timeline tab or even when switching between different tabs, duh!

So now the question is, how do we get rid of it? Well the answer is quite simple i.e open up Cydia and download Twizzler, a free tweak that removes the stupid Quick / Trend bar for good from your otherwise favorite Twitter client. Once the tweak is installed, you won’t be annoyed with that translucent bar on your timeline. Enjoy!

Without a doubt, the official Twitter app for iPhone and Twitter for iPad are the best iOS twitter clients available and the latest update, takes them to another level of goodness. A handful of new features have been added to the official iPhone / iPad twitter app which is available as a single universal binary for free on App Store. These features include easier uploading of photos with better image preview, autocomplete for @usernames and hashtags, auto link shortening, adding twitter friends from your address book and a new trends bar in timeline.

Here are the new features added in Twitter 3.3 update:

- Photos. Uploading photos is now easier than ever. There’s a camera button in the toolbar and we improved the image preview, so you can quickly choose a photo from your library or take a new picture.

- Follow your friends. Now you can find which of your friends are on Twitter that have chosen to be discoverable through the contacts on your phone.

iSocialShare is the first of its kind jailbreak tweak which lets you upload photos right from your iPhone’s native Camera.app to your Facebook & Twitter accounts. The tweak is now available on cydia store for any jaibroken iPhone / iPod running iOS4. Once downloaded and installed, iSocialShare adds a “cloud” icon to the Photos application at the top right side of navigation bar. Once you tap the cloud button, a menu pops up with options to share the picture on your favorite social networks.

Review – Kiwi Twitter Client for Mac

The Mac App Store is full of various Twitter clients, at various prices. Finding a well-priced application full of features can be difficult, and spending money on an app that you don’t like is a waste. Kiwi is a well-priced, feature-packed Twitter client that I have been testing since this morning. Here’s what I’ve found:

Strengths:

Price. When I bought Kiwi this morning, it cost me $.99. I figured it wouldn’t be a big loss if I didn’t like it. This is the ad-free version from the Mac App Store. You can download the free, ad-filled version here, along with the paid version, or you can buy it in the App Store like I did.
Interface. The Kiwi interface is very simple, and easy to navigate. It also has full support for Growl notifications, which alert you every time you are mentioned in a tweet or messaged.
Aesthetics. Along with a great interface, Kiwi offers 9 themes that all look nice and change the feel just enough to make the application personal. You can also download even more themes than the 9 that come pre-installed.
Memory usage. One problem I found while reviewing Sparrow is that it consumed more memory than necessary over time. Unlike Sparrow, Kiwi keeps a fairly constant memory usage. After more than an hour of running, Kiwi was using 64 MB of my RAM. Kiwi is lightweight enough that I can leave it running in the background without a problem.
Support for hashtags and auto-completion of usernames. This may seem trivial, but the official Twitter application doesn’t support auto-completion of usernames at this point, and some other Twitter clients lack support for hashtags.
Support for multiple accounts. I’m sure most Twitter clients have the support for multiple accounts, but the way Kiwi manages them is different. Kiwi gives each account a tab, and makes it easy to switch from feed to feed.
Customization. Through Kiwi’s preferences, multiple keyboard shortcuts can be set, along with how Kiwi treats various alerts.

Weaknesses:

First-time setup. The first time I launched Kiwi, it marked every post in my feed as unread and I had to scroll through them all to get rid of the unread count. It didn’t take long, but I personally found it a little annoying. I found later in the preferences that I could’ve saved myself the hassle by simply changing how tweets are marked. Easy fix: change your preferences first.

Overview:

Kiwi is a great application for its price, and I would have gladly paid $4.99 for it(If I used Twitter more, I would say $9.99). The application is set up well, comes with tons of options, and has support for most anything you can do on Twitter itself. The notifications are great, and the amount of personalization available for a Twitter client is superb. Kiwi is a steal at $.99, and has much better features than the official Twitter application does. Aside from the hassle during set up, which wasn’t really that bad, I couldn’t find anything to dislike about the application. If you love your Twitter feed, Kiwi is definitely worth a look.

Do you like Twitter? Do you follow someone because you know them personally, and not because you want to read all their posts? Do you dislike seeing hashtag after hashtag pop up in your timeline? If you answered yes to any/all of these, you’re going to love Proxlet. What is Proxlet? Proxlet is an extension for Google Chrome that allows the user to block other Twitter users, hashtags, or even tweets from apps and sites, from the Twitter timeline. Here’s how to get it:

Step 1: Have Google Chrome installed. If you don’t already have Chrome, you can download it here.

Step 2: Download Proxlet here, and allow it to install.

Step 3: Allow Proxlet to access your Twitter account by clicking “Allow.”

Step 4: Find a tweet from someone you’d like to mute, or containing something you’d like to mute.

Step 5: Hover over the “Proxlet” link and click it to bring up a menu of options.

Step 6: From the pop-up menu, select what to mute and for how long.

Step 7: Enjoy your spam free, nuisance free timeline!

Do you miss Instagram and PicPlz on Windows Phone 7? Here’s an alternative method to share Photos!

So you’ve been brave and ditched your iPhone or Android phone for Windows Phone 7. Good move. Loving the UX? So are we. But wait! Where are the awesome apps we loved on the ruling mobile platforms of the world? The Twitter app blows. There’s no Reeder for Windows Phone 7. No good IM clients. Heck, there’s no Instagram or PicPlz! Gasp!Fear not, fellow Windows Phone 7 users. While there’s not much we can do about the apps issue, there’s a way to take photos with cool effects and share them on your social networking websites through a few simple steps. You won’t be able to check in to Foursquare but seriously, that’s not the end of the world.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Posterous account ( or you can just start emailing to post@posterous without signing up to get started )
HTC Photo Enhancer ( for HTC Windows Phone 7 devices ) or Thumba for non-HTC Windows Phone 7 devices

This takes a few steps because we don’t really have any good app that can replace them all, but here’s how it goes:

Take a photo of your cat, dog, mouse or whatever it is that gets you through your day.
Go to that photo, open the ‘…’ menu and go to extras. You must have one of those ( or both ) image editing apps installed. Select either of them and chose your desired effect.
Open the image in your Photos hub, since the new effects ridden photo is in the saved photos folder. Share the image via email to send it to post@posterous.com Remember to put something in the subject. This will be your ‘tweet’ on Twitter or the photo caption on Facebook. Whatever you add to the email body will be published as blog post text on Posterous with the image.
Now your image is online. But you want social media sharing, don’t you? You have to make an account on Posterous and enable autoposting to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, Picasa etc. You get the picture.
So next time, whenever you repeat this process, images will be automatically posted to these social networks as well as your Posterous blog. You can even give a unique domain name to your Posterous blog like mine: iBrokeSomething
Of course, people can comment on these social networks and you can interact with them too.

If Windows Phone 7 allowed video uploads, you could also email them directly to Posterous and share them across your social networks but sadly, we don’t know what Microsoft is trying to do. These steps might seem annoying and there are a couple of apps that let you post images to a few social networks ( Windows Phone 7 has built in image upload to Facebook too ) but Posterous is the best way to sharing and archiving your photos to multiple social networks on the Internet.

This doesn’t mean that we stop whining about missing apps such as Instagram and PicPlz on Windows Phone 7. We still need them!

Twitter for iPhone & iPad Updated, Adds Push Notifications And More..

The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad has been updated to version 3.2.1 which brings full support for iOS 4.2 as well as the much awaited ‘Push Notifications’ feature, something which was not found in any twitter client without a subscription. There is also addition of inline media for the iPad version with tons of UI enhancements and bug fixes.

“In addition to @mentions, we’re also bringing push notifications for Messages to Twitter for iPhone, as we’ve already done with SMS and Twitter for Blackberry. We’re working hard to introduce this feature to Twitter for Android and Twitter for Windows Phone soon.

To turn on SMS notifications, go to twitter.com/devices and check the boxes under “Text message notifications”. You can change your notifications settings at any time. For example, text “set mentions all’ to turn on notifications for @mentions from everyone, rather than just those whom you follow, and ‘set mentions off’ to turn off @mentions notifications.”
