Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1 Available for Download

Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 for Office for Mac 2011. This update helps improve security by fixing a few vulnerabilities as well as supporting Apple’s Sync Services via Outlook 2011 SP1. You will be able to sync your Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with any service or device that supports Sync Services, including iPhone and iPad.

There are a few more features included in Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1:

Outlook support for Exchange based server-side rules; Outlook Redirect button (you can redirect the message to the intended recipient and the replies will go to the original sender); Outlook Resend button; Outlook edit of existing messages; and Solver integration support in Excel.

This update fixes critical issues and also helps to improve security. It includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code. For detailed information about this update, please visit the Microsoft Web site.

Before you say that Office 2010 Starter Edition will be available for free, read this: this tip is for the full versions of Office 2010 such as Professional and so on. Just like Windows, Office 2010 runs for 30 days as a trial without being activated with a product key. After this trial period, it can be re-armed to run for another 30 days. This grace period can be extended 5 times, which means you can use it for 6 months without activating.

While this trick can be executed via the command line, a tool has been made dubbed ‘Office 2010 Trial Extender Tool’ which makes rearming as easy as a click.

Again, this tool can be used 5 times which means 6 months of free full featured Office 2010 usage, or in other words, 180 days. This is a totally legal method in case you have any doubts.

Office Mobile 2010 now available as a free upgrade for Windows Mobile 6.5 users

Office Mobile 2010 beta was available for download since the later part of last year and now its final version is available in combination with the retail release of the full desktop version of Office 2010. Office Mobile 2010 will give you Word , Excel and PowerPoint editing capabilities on your Windows mobile 6.5 devices. It would help users to work on their documents more efficiently with added gestures and navigation capabilities .

Office Mobile 2010 would enable users to work on their document and presentations on their mobile devices just like they do on their desktops. Users would also be able to work offline and then sync back their documents via SharePoint Server 2010. And yes, users can also sync their email accounts with Outlook Mobile 2010.

Office Mobile 2010 is currently available for Windows Mobile 6.5 and can be downloaded from Windows Marketplace for Mobile here.

Microsoft Office 2010 has reached RTM stage – Launch on May 12

Going through so many of its testing stages, Office 2010 has finally reached the release to market stage and will be available for download to MSDN and TechNet users on the 22nd of April, which is just a few days from now.

Office 2010 is for sure the best version of Office so far, as far as we’ve seen and we’re hoping that things would get even better when the official launch takes place.

Subscribers of MSDN and TechNet can download the RTM version of Office 2010 on 22nd of this month, but what about regular consumers? Well, the retail version will be available across every store in the US in June while the kick off event will be held on May 12th in New York city along with other virtual events around the world.

Microsoft will officially launch Office 2010 on May 12

After the successful launch of Windows 7, Microsoft announced on Friday that Office 2010 will be officially launched at an event planned for May 12.

Microsoft has arranged an event on May 12 for the release of its much expected product, where they will make Office 2010 publically available for Enterprises with Volume License agreements. Consumers will not be able to buy this product until June.

Another interesting news is that customers who purchase Office 2007 and activate it between March 5, 2010 to September 30, 2010 will be offered a free upgrade to Office 2010. Copies will be offered online and via download, at no additional cost.

Consumers of Office Home and Student 2007 will receive a free copy of Office Home and Student 2010, while consumers of Office Standard 2007 and Office Basic 2007 will be entitled for a free copy of Office Home and Business 2010. On the other hand, consumers of Office Small Business 2007, Office Professional 2007 or Office Ultimate 2007 will be entitled for a free copy of Office Professional 2010.

So, it is very important that if you purchase any copy of Office 2007, make sure that it is eligible for MS-Office 2010 upgrade.

Stability and performance update available for Microsoft Office 2010 Beta

Microsoft has released an update for Word and Office 2010 Beta which fixes a few issues related to stability and performance. Although now rolled up in a single update package, the Outlook 2010 Beta update was released separately back in January which fixes a problem in which the size of an e-mail is unexpectedly large. The update also provides some fixes for Word 2010 beta ( both 32 and 64 bit editions ) as well as stability and performance improvements.

Office 2010 is currently available as a free public beta for download from Microsoft. It contains a better and more feature rich UI than Office 2007 as well as many other usability improvements. If you’re using Office 2010 Beta regularly, you should definitely download this update to improve your experience or you can download the Office 2010 Beta itself from Microsoft to give it a test drive.

The update is available for both 32 and 64 bit variants of Office 2010, so chose the right version on the download page.

Microsoft Press has released a new e-book for free (for a limited time only) titled First Look: Microsoft Office 2010. It contains 14 chapters which walk you through the newest features Office 2010 has to offer along with details of how they work. Interoperability with other applications has also been discussed as well as focus on how to work anywhere with Office 2010.

While Office 2010 is in public beta currently, this book can turn out to be really useful to spread awareness of the new features and provide training on them. The book is very well written with scenario based presentation, which makes it easy to understand.

Office 2010 Mobile Beta available for download

Along with the release of Office 2010 beta, Microsoft has also made available the beta for Office Mobile 2010 for Windows Phones via Windows Marketplace. Office Mobile 2010 contains Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint Mobile. It’s free to try and will work until April 5th, 2010.

Office 2010 betas download pages online – links coming soon

The public beta for Microsoft Office 2010 must be very near because Microsoft has put up the download pages for the betas on the new Office portal. From the information on the download page, it seems that Office 2010 Beta will be available in 3 SKUs, first being Office Home and Business 2010 beta, while the second one will be the Office Professional 2010 beta and the third will be the Office Professional Plus 2010 beta available for volume licensing only. Office Starter 2010 beta isn’t available as a choice for download.

The download links aren’t active yet, but will be made available soon according to the message on the pages. We might have to wait for PDC09 as expected for the downloads to be made available or maybe the betas will be arriving earlier than we thought.

I’ll update this post as soon as the download betas links go up. Meanwhile, here are the system requirements for those who want to try the beta:

1.5 GB; a portion of the disk space will be freed after installation if the original download package is removed from the hard drive.

Use of graphics hardware acceleration requires DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 64 MB or higher video memory. Requirements and product functionality can vary based on the system configuration and operating system.

Microsoft sends out invites for Office Starter 2010 Beta

While we still wait for the public beta of Office 2010 to release, hopefully at PDC09, Microsoft has sent out invites to Office Live Workspace users to try out the new Office Starter 2010 Beta SKU. Currently, a survey has to be filled and the participants will be contacted later if they meet the eligibility requirements.

Here’s what Office Starter 2010 brings:

All you need to do is use Office Starter 2010 Beta at home over the next few months, and let us know what you think. Office Starter 2010 includes Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and Microsoft Excel Starter 2010, which are great for basic tasks like writing letters, editing your resume, or creating a family budget.

And here’s what the survey looks like:

According to Mary Jo Foley, Office Starter 2010 will be available as a preload and will be free but ad-supported. It’ll be a replacement for Microsoft Works trial which OEMs bundle with Windows PCs. No word on how stripped down the functionality will be when compared to Office Web Apps. Stay tuned, we might have a lot more information available at PDC09 starting on the 17th of November.
