Windows Phone Mango Development Completed Ahead Of Schedule

Who was that saying that Windows Phone Mango devices will only be available this holiday season? That’s not true according to Peter Wissinger who is Microsoft’s Director of Mobile Business in northern-Europe.

He released an official statement regarding the matter, claiming that Microsoft has now finished Windows Phone Mango (ahead of schedule) and it’s upto manufacturers to release it to phones.

Microsoft initially planned to release the “Mango” update this fall to OEMs, so it could get to users by late 2011. But according this new report, it seems OEMs and wireless carriers will have more time to try out and approve the update for their users.

There is no other information indicating when or how existing Windows Phone users will get their hands-on “Mango”, however if manufacturers get their act together this could be fairly soon.

Microsoft first revealed Windows Phone 7.5 codenamed “Mango” this year during MIX ‘11. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore demoed the update, which included multitasking support, new Bing features and Twitter and LinkedIn integration. More information regarding “Mango” was released during other events throughout the year. For example, Fujitsu is already preparing their first Windows Phone which will run Windows Phone 7.5. Also, Nokia is preparing their first Windows Phone which they seem to be very excited about.

Nokia Windows Phone Mango Device Leaked [Video]

One of the first Windows Phone Mango devices by Nokia has been leaked on video.

First details of the phone were released by Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop during an internal meeting. The device carries an 8MP Carl-Zeiss Camera, gorilla glass and appears to be almost identical to the Nokia N9. The phone is ‘super confidential’ at this time, and therefore not much is know of it. There is (obviously) no official release date announced, but the phone is expected to be released this fall, when other Windows Phone Mango devices will also be released. To confirm this rumor, we can recall Nokia saying that they are holding a Nokia World Conference on October 26 – 27. (via WinRumors)

U.S. Army Currently Testing iPhone, Android and Windows Phone

The U.S. Army is currently conducting several six week tests of the three most popular mobile operating systems, namely iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

With the security and privacy soldiers need, one would think that the U.S. Army would prefer to have BlackBerrys due to their tight security. However, it seems as they have taken a different path, as they are testing the three main operating systems. From the three, only two will be selected. The reason being that they are trying to keep costs down, because they will be having their own application store for the army.

One problem they will face with all three OSes though is the fact that none can transmit data encrypted. But, they hope to eliminate this issue by the end of this year.

Things that are critically important to the U.S. Army are security, reception, battery life and stability of the OS. (via WPCentral)

Microsoft has recently announced that the upcoming updates for Windows Phone 7 will bring a bunch of new features such as ability to Copy / Paste, Internet Explorer 9 browsing experience, Xbox Kinect Integration as well as a much improved multitasking UI. Today, they have demonstrated the new multitasking UI with an early build of WP7 update (codenamed “Mango”) which is scheduled for release by the end of 2011. Mango also adds Twitter and SkyDrive integration in addition to a brand new multitasking UI.

Belfiore demonstrated the new multitasking functions of Windows Phone which will allow users to quickly switch between applications, resume apps and use a new UI to check the state and switch to running apps. The UI is similar to Microsoft’s Windows 7 peek function as it gives an overview of the application state before the switch occurs. Microsoft’s multitasking for Windows Phone addresses a key criticism of the new operating system and is scheduled to ship as part of a big release possibly named Windows Phone 7.5.

George Hotz (geohot) Jumping to Windows Phone 7?

George Hotz, the man who unlocked the iPhone in 2007, released iDevice jailbreaks Blackra1n and Limera1n, and who is being sued by Sony for jailbreaking the PlayStation 3, may be jumping platforms yet again. On George’s website, geohot.com, he posted:

I’m going out to buy a Windows 7 phone

Microsoft, as with previous WP7 jailbreakers, seems eager to welcome geohot to the WP7 community. Brandon Watson, WP7 dev experience director, offered to send Hotz a free WP7. As for what will come of this move, only the future will tell. Personally, I think Microsoft is taking a step in the right direction in welcoming and working with jailbreakers and independent devs. What do you think? Is Microsoft making the right move? HTC HD2 is one of my favorite phones when it comes to Windows Mobile. I like it because of its huge multi touch 4.3” screen. This phone can run Android as well with a dual boot hack.With the update of Android Froyo 2.2 people started wondering how to update it. Well, hackers have the answers as they have found a way to upgrade your Android OS on HTC HD2.

A quick and easy way to hack your HTC HD 2 was discussed on talkandroid. Here is the step by step guide to install Froyo 2.2 on HD2.

1) Find an SD card with 600MB of free space.

2) Download this file, unzip it and place the folder on your SD card.

3) Locate the folder via Windows file manager App.

4) Select the file named “CLRCAD”, then tap “Haret”. This applies sound fix and starts building Android OS.

It is the easiest method to install Android on your HD2, but it lacks one thing which is that it doesn’t have an efficient boot loader for switching between operating systems. This means that restarting your phone will result in doing the process over and over again.

Office Mobile 2010 beta was available for download since the later part of last year and now its final version is available in combination with the retail release of the full desktop version of Office 2010. Office Mobile 2010 will give you Word , Excel and PowerPoint editing capabilities on your Windows mobile 6.5 devices. It would help users to work on their documents more efficiently with added gestures and navigation capabilities .

Office Mobile 2010 would enable users to work on their document and presentations on their mobile devices just like they do on their desktops. Users would also be able to work offline and then sync back their documents via SharePoint Server 2010. And yes, users can also sync their email accounts with Outlook Mobile 2010.

Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Running on a Tablet

At CTIA, a tablet with a 7 inch screen was spotted with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 under the hood. Clearly the OS is not designed to run on a tablet. It might sound ridiculous but it does look tempting to use.

The manufacturer of this tablet is Mangrove, the tablet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor with 512MB of ROM and 256MB of RAM, which we think is quite enough if you’re just going to use the tablet for Internet surfing and maybe some IM’ing as well.

But for those who have used WinMo 6.5 handsets, you’ll find this tablet rather strange, but I’m quite certain that this thing won’t hit the shelves any time soon, but it’s always nice to see something experimental or unique isn’t it? [via WMExperts]
