Despite no official word from Microsoft on a release date yet, a pretty strong rumor suggests the long awaited first update for Windows Phone 7 will eventually drop on February 7th according to a report from mowindowsphone.fr, a french website. It is believed that this download will feature the Copy / Paste feature, something which should have been included in the OS at launch. Though ModMyi has made it clear that this is beta installation, while the final theme will eventually be available soon through a Cydia repo. Finally, we have a new Messenger app for Windows Phone 7, Li’Messenger that’s actually pleasant to use although with some features lacking that might get resolved in the next version, we hope. Li’Messenger is a free app without any ads and seems way faster than the semi-official Messenger app that was already available in the MarketPlace which honestly, no one likes. Li’Messenger, on the other hand, has a small footprint, it’s fast, designed using Metro in mind and connects directly to Windows Live. It also supports signing in from more than one place so you can be signed in to Messenger from your desktop, Xbox and your WP7 at the same time. The Messenger app by Miyowa doesn’t allow this. So you’ve been brave and ditched your iPhone or Android phone for Windows Phone 7. Good move. Loving the UX? So are we. But wait! Where are the awesome apps we loved on the ruling mobile platforms of the world? The Twitter app blows. There’s no Reeder for Windows Phone 7. No good IM clients. Heck, there’s no Instagram or PicPlz! Gasp!
Fear not, fellow Windows Phone 7 users. While there’s not much we can do about the apps issue, there’s a way to take photos with cool effects and share them on your social networking websites through a few simple steps. You won’t be able to check in to Foursquare but seriously, that’s not the end of the world.

According to an anonymous source at WinRumors, Microsoft may be getting ready to release an SDK (software development kit) for Kinect, the Xbox 360 motion sensor, to support Windows PCs and it may happen a lot sooner than anticipated, most likely this summer. The first beta of the official SDK could well be released in the next few months allowing third-party developers to create titles that utilize the Kinect sensor when plugged into a PC. Read more...
