Apple’s iTunes is an overall great media manager. And, when it comes to backing up your iDevice, it does alright. But, iTunes has its shortcomings. What do you do if you got 3 stars on every Angry Birds level and want to transfer that success to another device? What if you spent a great amount of time meticulously setting up a third-party application just the way you like it? Now, there’s an answer. Read more...

Indie(independently developed) games generally don’t become extremely popular because of their rather limited budget and small-scale advertising. Last year, two very big indie games changed things around. Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Minecraft. Both have been huge hits, with Minecraft having sold 1.15 million + licenses currently, and it’s still in beta. Read more...

Whether you’ve got kids, pets that love to lay on your keyboard, or just enjoy your security and privacy, it’s always a good idea to lock your computer when you’re away. Windows + L is a great shortcut for locking your computer, but it has one downside: you can’t see anything that’s happening while it’s locked. ClearLock is a free application that locks your Windows desktop without hiding it. Read more...

Apple have released an update to iTunes, version 10.1.1 which contains a few important bug fixes. I haven’t faced any of these issues but it’s always good to stay up to date just to be safe. The update is really small, just 39.4 MB as compared to the huge updates we normally get for iTunes. Read more...

Adrian Kingsley over at Hardware 2.0 has done another comparison between Vista and 7, keeping XP out this time, and based on gaming performance. He doesn’t reveal any accurate numbers for his benchmarks as that is against the Windows 7 RC EULA ( I wonder if using a leaked build is against that as well?! ). The benchmarks have been run on a fairly powerful system, with graphics cards ranging from mainstream to enthusiast performance, an Inter Core 2 Due E8500 processor overclocked to 3.6 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and pixel killing games like Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2 and Left 4 Dead, all at a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050. 32 bit versions of both OS were used. Ed Bott has a good benchmarking review of how Windows 7 handle 512 MB of memory when compared to Windows XP and Windows Vista. I had recently posted about a touchscreen 6000 MHz UMPC with 512 MB running Windows 7 nicely, so it shows that Windows 7 is indeed a step forward in terms of performance on low end systems. Good news for all you netbook advocates out there ( I’m not one of you, sorry ! ), and bad news for all the Linux zealots as they’ve got competition now. Interesting thing about Ed’s benchmarking is that he used the x64 edition of Windows 7 Beta, x86 version of Windows Vista and don’t know which version of Windows XP. To keep it fair, he updated all the operating systems with any critical and recommended updates available for them. No third party software was installed apart from Firefox on Windows XP. All these operating systems were testing in a virtual machine. Here are the memory and disk usage results: Read more...
