FaceApp is a new selfie app for iOS which uses artificial intelligence to transform faces. The app has a number of neural face transformation filters, which let users add a smile, change gender, change age or become more attractive. Developed by Wireless Lab, the app provides stunning results in certain situations.
Founder and CEO of FaceApp, Yaroslav Goncharov, explains that FaceApp is different from the other filters apps like Pikazo and Prisma because those apps only change the style of the photo and not the content while FaceApp does the opposite. FaceApp uses deep generative convolution-neural networks to modify the content and preserve the style of an image to produce photo-realistic results. It is the impeccable quality of the transformed photos that Goncharov takes great pride in, something other competing apps have yet to deliver.
How to use FaceApp
- Take a selfie or photo via the in-app camera. Users also have the option to select a picture from Photos library. However, there should only be one face in the selected photo.
- The app will open the photo with a number of filter options: collage, hot, smile, old, young, male and female are the available options.
- Tap on the desired filter to view the facial transformation. However, male and female filters are only available in the Collage mode.
- Collage lets users pick any three filters they want to apply to a photo and view them all with the original photo.
So far, FaceApp has received four and a half stars rating and a number of good reviews in the App Store. Users have coined the transformation experience as ‘fun’ and ‘amazing’. Having used the app, we enjoyed the different transformations, especially the smile and gender filters.
FaceApp is available for free in the App Store. It requires iOS 8.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
