How to jailbreak iPod Touch and iPhone 3G/3GS OS 3.1.2 with blackra1n RC3

Important Note: The new Spirit jailbreak tool has been released which provides an untethered jailbreak. This means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak your iPod Touch 3G or iPhone 3GS after every reboot. Please use this guide to jailbreak all iPod Touch models with OS 3.1.2/3.1.3 untethered using Spirit Jailbreak! and use this one to jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS with OS 3.1.3/3.1.2 untethered!

Important: iPhone OS 3.1.3 has been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve got a new guide up on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 and iPod Touch 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4. Don’t upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 if you’re using an unlocked iPhone 3G/3Gs or a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (MC Model)/3G. The redsn0w guide is for iPhone 2G/3G jailbreak and iPod Touch 1G/2G ( non MC Models) only.

blackra1n RC3 will be released today for the iPhone 3G and 3GS today and brings hacktivation as a new feature ( check out the change log here) . This is great news for those who had upgraded to 05.11.07 baseband and were waiting for a way to unlock their iPhones! For those who still haven’t jailbroken their iPhone 3G/3GS with OS 3.1.2, here’s a quick guide on how to do that with blackra1n RC3.

Download iTunes 9 from Apple’s website.
Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes.
Once your iPhone has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7 ( if it crashes ).
Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
It’ll take sometime while your iPhone is jailbroken. After it’s done, it’ll restart.
You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. There is an option to install Rock as well, which is a Cydia alternative.

Congratulations, you have your iPhone OS 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.

blackrain rc3 is not fully working with ipod touch 32gb 3g OS 3.1.2

it will jailbreak the player but when i restart it will always ask to recover with itunes so what i have to do is run the blackrain rc3 application everytime i restart my ipod its kind of annoying….
i hope a new version is comming soon that fixes this problem

Well I have a freaking problem my jail break with this works… In a way… It will not let me open apps downloaded from the normal app store, well it will open but it just fucking closes 5 seconds after opening any apps from the store, this only happened after jailbreak…. WTF!???

You idiots, why not do some freakin research. When you need to “re-jailbreak” your touch 3g every time it restart, thats called a tethered jailbreak, and thats all that exists for the moment for ipod touch 3rd gen’s.

I’m having the same problem that Slash is having. I go to open apps that I have downloaded from the official app store, and the screen opens up like the app is about to load, and then after a few seconds it goes right back to the main menu… I’m so confused >< any way to fix this? i installed blackra1n and when i switch my ipod off it reboots it. Any solutions so this doesnt happen?

yeaaa no…. theres no solution for that…. for 3rd gens its only tethered so that means everytime u switch off it reboots and u have to jailbreak again… this is called the tethered version….. they still have to make a untethered on for 3rd gens.

my 8gb 3.1.2 wont restore it faisl to do so… this is after it was jailbroken….. it only brings up the itunes and usb cord….

i need help getting it back to normal… i try jailbreaking again but that does not work either…. it just has the jailbreak dude on my screen forever!!!

I have a iphone 3gs 3.1.2 firmware, mc model and i have a untethered jailbreak. Everything works fine. If you have any problems with your iphone or itouch rebooting then try dfu mode if that dont work keep trying. Hold the power and home button together for 10 seconds then release the power button while still holding the home for 5 more seconds. I thought i hade an tethered jailbreak but i dont, even though i have a mc model.

I have the a same 3gs modelc runing os 3.1.2 like yours and I have managed to jailbreak and unlock but the only problems is when it boots I have to run blackrain again. Please let me know how you manage yours?

Hi, I have a 3rd Gen OS 3.1.3 iPod touch and tried out this guide, it didn’t work. When it got to “Done, wait for reboot” I waited for 5 mins and still nothing, so I canceled it by closing blackra1n, iTunes and turning off my iPod manually.

the blackrain application, doesn’t even work for me. after i downloaded it and started it up, i get a failure saying it can’t find a component. is says that the ASL.dll was not found :S can somebody help me with this
