How to make iTunes 10 Colorful again [Mac only]

iTunes10_Color_IconsWe don’t know what Apple were thinking, but with iTunes 10, they seem to have lost there sense of color. Also, don’t even get us started on the ‘traffic lights’ buttons. Luckily, for Mac users, there’s a way to get the colorful icons back in iTunes 10. Here’s how:

  1. Quit iTunes 10. Make sure you quit it from the dock or the menu bar on top.
  2. Go to the applications folder, right click on the iTunes app icon and click on ‘Show Package Contents’.
  3. Download this file iTunes10colors.zip and extract it. There’s a file inside ‘iTunes.rsrc’.
  4. Replace the one in the package contents with the ‘iTunes.rsrc’ you just downloaded.

That’s it. You now have your colorful icons back!

  1. Thank you so much! I thought my 18 month old son had screwed something up on my iTunes or my machine was going bad! I can’t believe they made everything gray! OMG! What were they thinking. Sometimes I think those people drink way too much of their own koolaid. Don’t get me wrong I love their products but their not infallible.

  2. After doing this, I have the disallow/allow question every time I launch iTunes. The previous solution was reinstall the app so I did this and replaced the resource file before the first launch but the question still pops up. I guess I have to decide which is the lesser of two evils but I wish the color solution didn’t cause another problem. (on 10.5.8)
