iOS 10 beta 3 was released to users around 2 weeks back with a number of changes and bug fixes.

Users can upgrade to iOS 10 developer beta 4 by any of the following methods:

  • If you are already on developer beta 3, go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to download the update over the air. Make sure that your iOS device is connected to a WiFi network
  • Connect your iOS device to a computer running iTunes. This will create a complete backup of your iOS device to your computer and then download and install the update
  • Download the iOS beta 4 IPSW file from Apple Developer Center, connect your iOS device to your computer and upgrade via iTunes. This is useful if you want to do a clean install on your device.

We have been playing with the new beta for a while. Here is what’s new so far in IOS 10 beta 4:

  • Right off the bat, the new beta is way faster than any previous iOS 10 beta, and even iOS 9. The app launching and closing animations are very fast as are the folder animations. Animations in Spotlight also seem faster than before.
  • The new beta has diverse Emojis which also have a slightly rounder look with gradients, rather than a flat one. iOS 10 beta 4 available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (4)
  • A new intro screen shows when you swipe up to use control center for the first time. Oddly, it says ‘iPhone controls’ even on the iPad. iOS 10 beta 4 available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (1)
  • Day and date are back above widgets in the notification center. On iPhone, they are only visible if you swipe down from the home screen to access Spotlight search and swipe right to access widgets. Just swiping right on the home screen to access widgets does not show the date. iOS 10 beta 4 available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (3)
  • Laggy app switcher is fixed. No more lag.
  • Some wallpapers have been removed, perhaps indicating that new ones will be added soon.
  • New sounds for when you press space bar, backspace, enter or any other function keys in the keyboard.
  • Haptic feedback on lock button press is gone.
  • 3D touch performance improvements in third party apps.
  • Notifications now show a small drag handle at the bottom. iOS 10 beta 4 available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (5)
  • Popularity stars for songs are back in Apple Music. iOS 10 beta 4 available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (6)
  • Issue with PNG transparencies is fixed.

iOS 10 was announced at WWDC 2016 with tons of new features which include a brand new iMessages, third party developer integrations for Messages, Maps, and Phone apps, updates to Notes, Health, and Apple Music, 3D touch enhancements along with widgets in Quick Actions on home screen icons, redesigned notification center and widgets and a lot more.

Apple also released macOS 10.12 Sierra beta 4, watchOS 3 beta 4 and tvOS 10 beta 4 today.
