Apple announced the much-rumored smaller version of iPad, called the iPad Mini, at a special event held in San Jose, California. Packed with a beautiful 7.9-inch display, powerful A5 chip, FaceTime HD camera, an iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, ultrafast wireless, and over 275,000 apps ready to download from the App Store, the iPad Mini is going to compete with the immensely popular Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. Check out the complete list of features after the jump!
Design & Features
The iPad Mini is just 7.2mm thick, 23% thinner than an iPad and weighs only 308 grams, making it almost 53% lighter than an iPad. As expected, the iPad Mini comes with a lightning dock connector which made its debut with iPhone 5. The smaller version of iPad is packed with a single cell battery which Apple claims can last for 10 hours on a single charge.
iPad Mini comes with a 7.9-inch beautiful vibrant display, giving it 35% more screen area than a 7-inch Nexus tablet. Though smaller in size than that of an iPad 2, it has the same 1024-by-768 resolution but less than the 1280×800 display of its competitor, Nexus 7.
iPad Mini has two cameras, a front camera with FaceTime HD support and a rear 5-megapixel iSight Camera capable of 1080p video recording. iPad mini is powered by the latest version of iOS: iOS 6 and as rumored, Siri is part of the software. Since iPad Mini has the same resolution as that of iPad 2, all apps designed for iPad 2 work perfectly on it.
iPad Mini will be available in two colors, black and white, with the same anodized back as the iPhone 5 while a Smart Cover would also be available.
Price & Availability
iPad Mini will be available in three storage configurations: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, each with two connectivity option: WiFi only or WiFi with LTE.
