iPod Touch 5G To Support 3G Connectivity, Coming Fall 2011 [Rumor]

iPod touch + 3G connectivity = iPhone right? Well, it might sound weird at first but if we remove the ability to make phones calls from an iPhone while keeping 3G connectivity exclusively for data, just like an iPad 3G, we might get what Apple is rumored to have planned for the iPod touch 5G. According to AppleSpot.nl, the fifth generation iPod touch will incorporate antennas for 3G / EDGE data connection and a SIM card tray for inserting a data SIM. Frankly speaking, its not a bad idea at all!

Here is a translation:

It will work just like the iPad; you get a 3G enabled simcard from your provider and put that in you iPod Touch. Apple’s choice of bringing 3G to the iPod Touch isn’t all that weird, if it’s true of course. Question remains how the providers will react to this, since the use of for example Skype will skyrocket.

Many potential buyers of iPod touch find having WiFi as the only means of internet connectivity, a seriously limiting factor in making an eventual purchase. With cellular data at their disposal, this reservation could easily go away, encouraging masses to eventually buy an iPod touch. Do you think this is seriously going to happen this fall?
