Apple has blocked the PDF security flaw that allowed JailbreakMe to work which has effectively rendered it useless for those who updated to iOS 4.0.2. Luckily, redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 can still jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. If you have an iPhone 3G, follow our guide here on how to jailbreak it and unlock it using ultrasn0w.
For all iPod Touch 2G (non-MC models) owners, follow this guide:
- Download iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 4 for your iPod Touch. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
- Download redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. It’s available for both Mac and Windows.
- Download and install iTunes 9.2.1 on your Mac or PC.
- Connect your iPod Touch to your computer and using iTunes, upgrade to iOS 4.0.2. This can be done using iTunes as described here.
- Now that you have iOS 4.0.2 on your iPod Touch, you’ll have to jailbreak it by using iOS 4.0 (NOT iOS 4.0.2) with redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5. Click browse and point it to iOS 4 firmware and follow the instructions on the screen. [Vista users might need to run redsn0w as administrator]
- Once you’re done and it reboots, you should have a jailbroken iPod Touch.
- If you want to enable/disable multitasking or background wallpapers on your iPod Touch, use zToggle. We don’t recommend it though as it will suck the performance and battery out of your iPod Touch.

Well, it doesn’t work on ipod touch 2g 4.0.2 MC model. So, what i need to do to jailbreak mt touch, everyone?

Read the whole thing again Lolicon. I did use 4.0 with my itouch that has 4.0.2.. It prompts you and asks if you’re using an MC model. When you say yes… it says that it is not able to Jailbreak yet..

So, any ideas on how to jailbreak an MC Model iPod Touch 2G yet guys?? I’ve tried downgrading to 4.0 and 3.1.3 copious amounts of times with no luck!
MC model can’t be jailbroken with iOS 4.0.2 yet.
Here’s hoping a jailbreak comes out soon then. Anyone got any ideas why I can’t downgrade my iPod touch 2G MC Model to 4.0.1 or earlier??
Apple blocked all downgrades on software, only latest version software (3.1.3 and 4.0.2) are allowed to be used. You cant restore to an older version, even when you use the shift/restore method in itunes.
You can downgrade only if you had SHSH blobs backed up
Wait until iOS 4.1 comes out. After that you can keep checking jailbreakme.com (in your Safari) for the update.
hey, i own an ipod touch 2g mc model with 4.0. I originally jailbroke it with jailbreakme.com and it worked. I then reboot it once some time later and on start up was the recovery mode loop. luckily i had 4.0 shsh blobs backed up and restored it back to 4.0, twice. I can’t get jailbreakme.com to work and since i can’t jailbreak it in any way, should i just update to 4.0.2? please answer :)

im confused because at like 21 seconds it goes to jailbreaking gets to stage 3 then freezes at waiting for reboot
There’s nothing you can do. The guide mentions that this works ONLY on iPod Touch NON MC MODELS.
Well I jailbreaked my own ipod touch 2 gen MC-model runnin iOS 4.0 with jailbreakme.com. It worked flawless and now I’m running correctly jailbreaked 4.0, untethered.

I have a MC model and i’ve upgraded to 4.0.2 without SHSH. Just made some SHSH files tru tinyUmbrella and keept it running. Downloaded the iPod touch 2G 4.0 image (8A293) and installed it without any problems. I don’t know what the exact results are of playing around with these tools, but IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE 4.0 jailbroken on a MC model.
after i installed the 4.0 version i just went to jailbreakme.com and it was finished

Make sure your current FW is original iOS 4.0, if not you can upgrade fw iOS 4 with iTunes. Then JB with 0.9.5b5-5. (For non-MC model)

I’d suggest u restore yer ipod touch 2g MC MODEL to 4.0 (u can download it manually) by pressing shift and click on the restore button. It will not give u problems as it hasnt done so for me and i successfully downgraded from 4.0.2 to 4.0
unless u wanna try the new features of 4.0.2, i suggest RESTORING to 4.0
