PlayStation 3 gets firmware update, 3D Blu-Ray movies supported

The day is here! As promised by Sony earlier, PlayStation 3 now has the ability to play 3D Blu-Ray movies. Though users with 3D Televisions will be the only ones to use the new feature but with the growing market of 3D LED TVs it won’t be a problem for Sony.

Sony PlayStation 3 is currently the cheapest Blu-Ray player supporting 3D movie playback. This update, after the infamous 3.41 firmware update which closed all the loopholes of jailbreaking PS3 via PSGroove and PS Jailbreak, brings rejoice to the users by giving them the 3D movie experience.

According to Sony, additional new features in the 3.50 update include:

  • Facebook Integration: Developers will be able to create PS3 games that have more interaction with Facebook. Once compatible PS3 titles are available, PS3 users can choose to access public information on Facebook – including user name, profile, uploaded photos and friends list – to enhance their gameplay experience.
  • Grief Reporting Function: Users can send claim reports directly from the XMB for any inappropriate messages they receive from other PlayStation Network users. This feature is accessible from the option menu of the messages list in the FRIENDS category.
