SoundHound has recently been updated to version 7.1.1 with a new voice assistant that responds to natural language queries staring with ‘Ok Hound’ keyword. Unlike Hound, SoundHound’s Siri like voice assistant, the integration is for music related searches which include song recognition, artists/songs searches and much more.
SoundHound, which already allowed music lovers to search, discover and play music with live lyrics, now offers easier and faster access to music via hands-free mode at home, in the car or on the go. The hands-free mode can be activated by saying “Ok Hound’ plus the desired command to perform different functions.
The ‘Ok Hound’ keyword is re-used from SoundHound’s app called Hound which provides the same functionality as Siri, Cortana and Google Now. It lets you search for weather, stocks, the web and just about any information you can find on the Internet or around you. SoundHound has included the same voice recognition tech in their popular music app to enable hands free searching for music related information as well as perform certain functions such as managing playlists.
To initiate a search, simply tap on the big orange button or say Ok Hound while the app is open. Here are some examples of natural language queries that can be used with ‘Ok Hound’ keyword:
- To play songs: “Ok Hound, play Magic by Coldplay”
- To add a song to spotify playlist: “Ok Hound, add Apologize to my Spotify playlist”
- To get information of an artist : “Ok Hound, what’s Drake’s latest song? OR “Ok Hound, where was Katty Perry Born”?
- To identify a song or hum: “Ok Hound, whats this song”?
Besides searching, discovering and playing music, SoundHound lets you access your music search history, view live lyrics, stay abreast with latest music updates and trends around the globe, browse top trending videos, make purchases using iTunes (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and access other music services from within SoundHound such as, Google Play, Apple Music, Deezer, Lyricfind, Youtube, Beats1 Radio, Spotify, Pandora and more.
SoundHound is available for free for iOS and Android users.
