<Category: Apple, iPod> 6 Comments

Jailbreaking is a popular method of enabling your iPod Touch or iPhone to run unofficial code and install applications that bypass the restrictions laid out by Apple for the iPhone OS. Installing it can be very beneficial if you want to install apps which enhance the functionality of your iPhone OS such as Backgrounder ( which lets you multitask on your iPod Touch by letting apps run in the background ) and the likes. Here’s a simple guide on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch with the latest version of its OS i.e. 3.0 using Windows.

Facebook app 3.0 for iPhone will allow video uploads – but there’s a catch

<Category: iPhone> 10 Comments

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 App New HomescreenFacebook announced their new app for iPhone, version 3.0 with a hefty feature list. Missing in the list was video capture and upload. Joe Hewitt, a Facebook employee working on the iPhone app tweeted a day after, that video uploading has been implemented in the new Facebook iPhone app – but there’s a catch. You won’t be able to watch your friend’s Facebook videos yet on the iPhone because Facebook videos are encoded in a very high bit rate which the iPhone doesn’t play. This might change in the future though, either through updates to the iPhone OS, or changes made by Facebook to encode videos in an iPhone compatible bit rate.

Even without the playback, it’ll be great to use your iPhone 3G S to record and upload videos directly to Facebook. Expect the new app to appear in the App Store this summer.

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 App New Homescreen Facebook for iPhone 3.0 will be released soon as posted by a Facebook employee in a note. The application hasn’t been submitted to Apple yet as it’s 98% completed so far. The feature list is pretty impressive and will make the application even more useful. Push notifications wont make it to Facebook for iPhone 3.0, although they’ll be implemented in 3.1, later this summer along with other missing features. There’s no video upload either in 3.0, so hopefully that too might make it in 3.1.

No Voice Control for iPhone 3G, iPod Touch and first gen iPhone

<Category: iPhone> 36 Comments

image One of the main features of iPhone 3G S is called Voice Control, which allows you to place a call or play music just by using voice commands. It’s not part of the iPhone OS 3.0 as everyone presumed. The reason behind this can be attributed to the faster processor and larger amount of RAM in iPhone 3G S, which makes it more suitable for an intensive task such as Voice Control. Even the current generation iPod Touch, which has a support for a mic which you can Skype with, doesn’t support this feature. The iPod Touch is a bit faster in performance than the iPhone 3G, so Voice Command could be touted as a main selling point to give users a reason to upgrade to the iPhone 3G S.
