The question which is in the mind of many people is “Will Bing become a better search engine then Google after it enter in a deal with Yahoo!? We don’t know that yet but the Search and Advertising deal between Microsoft and Yahoo has been cleared by the European Commission and US Department of Justice. Many people believe that Bing will be able to compete with the search engine king, Google, once the deal is finalized.  According to DOJ, “This enhanced performance, if realized, should exert correspondingly greater competitive pressure in the marketplace”.

Bing Gadget

I recently stumbled across this official gadget by Microsoft for Bing. As excited as I was, I was disappointed to find out that it’s a very simple gadget that only shows suggestions and opens up the search results in the browser. The drop down suggestions aren’t even visual, i.e. you wont see image suggestions or the weather by typing in ‘New York weather’ like you get in Internet Explorer 8’s search box.

Bing introduces search history but respects privacy more than Google.

<Category: Bing, Microsoft> 5 Comments

image Back in March, I had stumbled upon search history in Live Search, which was never opened to the public. It was just a mere coincidence but it did show that Microsoft plans to implement it down the road. Back then, the name Bing had not been announced and we all were speculating on the new search engine to be called Kumo.

When Bing launched, I highly expected search history to be a part of it but it wasn’t. Not that it has finally been introduced, privacy is built through out the feature. History is turned on by default for all Bing users but turning it off requires only one click. History is currently saved for the last 4 weeks only.

Search using Bing on your iPhone/iPod Touch through bingGo

<Category: Microsoft> 6 Comments

image While there has been an app for almost everything in the App Store, it was missing an app which would let you search using Bing. The only search engine choices available in the Mobile Safari browser included in the iPhone OS are Yahoo and Google. These two are locked in, so you can’t add bing or Wikipedia if you wish to ( which is a pathetic thing ). Thankfully, this app called bingGo lets you use Bing search for web, images, videos, news and even maps in a very convenient way. Some might even mistake it for an official app by the Bing team, it’s that good.
