nataldev2 Microsoft is gearing up to launch Project Natal this holiday season according to the latest news without any price announcements. What we know is that a lot of big names are preparing software titles to be available for Project Natal at launch – after all ‘it’s the software, stupid’. According to The Seattle Times, Microsoft has hired Pegatron to build Project Natal controllers for Xbox 360 to go on sale later this year. No matter what the critics say, Project Natal will be awesome, given that the price is reasonable.

Microsoft’s patent for gesture based messaging system

<Category: Microsoft, Windows, Windows Mobile> No comment

Windows Mobile 7 Not much is known about Windows Mobile 7 at this point. The most recent update has been from Stephen Chapman on Microsoft seeking testers for Windows Mobile 7 Search and Browser teams. I recently stumbled across this interesting patent based on messaging system controllable by gestures. Microsoft applied for a patent for Controlling an Integrated Messaging System Using Gestures which says:

Methods and apparatus for displaying and interacting with messages are described. Messages are displayed using one of a number of different visualization schemes provided. A user can interact with messages or change the selected visualization scheme using gestures and the mapping of gestures to particular actions is different for different visualization schemes. In an embodiment the messages are received via integrated messaging channels and messages are classified using a number of properties. Each of the visualization schemes has a different way of graphically representing messages and each scheme is adapted to emphasize a different combination of message properties.

Live Demos of Project Natal – Take that Sony!

<Category: Microsoft> 4 Comments

If you followed the E3 conference, you must have noticed how Sony and PS 3 fanboys were claiming that Microsoft only showed scripted/acted demos and not live one for Project Natal  ( they acted as the Paint Party and Ricochet demos weren’t live ). Microsoft had promised demos behind closed doors, for people attending the conference and they did stick to their promise. A lot of celebrities, amongst other people, got a taste of Project Natal at E3, and the reaction has been amazing. Felicia Day, Brittany Snow, Aisha Tyler and many others got live demos of Project Natal and the videos are up at the Project Natal Youtube Channel. I’ve embedded Felicia’s hands on video of Project Natal below, others can be seen at the Youtube Channel.

Warning: Although Project Natal is awesome, it can be a cause for such awkward movements
