Apple has pushed a new Snow Leopard Graphics Update that aims to bring stability and performance improvements for games and graphic intensive applications. It mainly fixes issues with games from Steam including Portal and Team Fortress 2. Steam had said in the past in reply to slow gaming frame rates on Mac that they’re working with Apple, Nvidia and ATI to improve the gaming performance on Macs. This update seems to be a part of their work.

Apple has started distributing the first developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.5 since Friday night. This is the fifth release of company’s Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating system and is officially labeled as Build 10H525. It isn’t daily that you get to hear of security vulnerabilities in Apple’s OS X. Even if security flaws are discovered in OS X, they are rarely exploited for malicious reasons unlike in Windows where viruses are widely available. Recently, a proof of concept code has been made available online that allows a vulnerability to be exploited in OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). According to DailyTech, the vulnerability is a “buffer overflow error that arises from the strtod function in the underlying Unix code used for the Mac OS.” This security flaw can allow a remote attacker to take over the system. Apple has rolled out Mac OS X 10.6.2 update. Apple regards this update as a release, that focuses on security, compatibility and stability aspects. Mac OS X 10.6.2 is the second update to be rolled out since the launch of Snow Leopard, three months back. Mac OS X 10.6.2 fixes the Guest Account Bug, which deleted user’s data when the user logged in as a Guest. It also brings an end to Intel Atom support which is bad news for hackintosh netbooks who want to upgrade to 10.6.2. The second Mac OS X update is said to contain fixes for more than 30 bugs.
