Apple’s Safari for Mac and Windows was one of the first browsers to have a private surfing mode, although Google Chrome has the best implementation of it to date. Apple never put a private browsing mode in Mobile Safari, possible because an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad is intended to be a single user, personal device, hence not needing such a mode. SwitcherMod is a cool new tweak created by Ryan Petrich, the same developer behind Proswitcher and Action Menu, and is available for free on Cydia. It allows dragging application icons in the iOS4′s native multitasking switcher bar to reoder them, changes the red close buttons to a black ‘x’ (similar to the native delete application badge) and also makes exited apps either transparent or completely hidden, showing only the actual applications running in the background. The only missing feature in the YouTube app on iPhone and iPod Touch is the ability to download videos. While it’s understandable that it’s not allowed due to copyright issues, most videos on YouTube aren’t copyrighted. YourTube was first released back in iOS 3.x days. It integrated nicely within the YouTube app and provided the download functionality as if it was there natively. With the release of iOS 4, YourTube didn’t work anymore. YourTube never got updated but instead a new version, YourTube 2 has been released. Now only does it fix some download issues that used to pop up in the first version, it also allows you to add the downloaded videos to the video section in iPod app. Read more...

TetherMe enables native tethering on iOS 3.x and iOS 4.x iPhones. Native tethering capability is enabled depending on the wish of service providers which isn’t so for unlucky AT&T users. Using TetherMe, the native tethering, which works via the USB cable or Bluetooth, can be enabled to work with just about any carrier via using the APN settings. This will let you use the data package of your iPhone on other devices such as computers and if you use iTether, also with iPod Touch and iPad. Read more...

With the release of iOS 4.0.2, Apple plugged the PDF security flaw that allowed JailbreakMe to do its work and access the device as a root.
