I have seen a lot different articles and blogs about what should be included in iOS 5. After reading through these countless articles, I see a pattern starting to form. Almost NONE of the ideas would benefit the general user. I don’t know about you but I would like to see some better UI benefits in the update. It is no secret that the white coats at Apple have taken ideas from jailbreake developers for a long time now. And the beta version of iOS 4.3 is no different, it shows signs of being a great update (if they don’t kill the major improvements before it is launched to the public).

It’s that time of the year again when the next flagship Android phone is released, yet again, to dethrone the current contender. Normally, the attraction to upgrade is based on the feature set of the device. But when you look at the Galaxy S and then Nexus S, there aren’t many benefits in upgrading apart from a few features such as NFC, gyroscope and flash. But the major feature in Nexus S is Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread. This is the latest update to Google’s mobile operating system and now that they’ve tied it with a new Google experience device, you can be rest assured that the next OS update will be released on this device first.

Apple has just released a very welcoming update to iWork suite of productivity apps which includes Pages, Keynote and Numbers for iPad. These updates include the ability to export Keynote presentations as PowerPoints (.PPT) and Numbers spreadsheets to Microsoft Excel (.XLS) format. This will definitely make iWork much more useful than before although it has to be noted that during export, some edits are lost as Office and iWork don’t support the same animations and layouts etc. This is true for Pages as well.

Nexus One – to buy or not to buy? Here’s a simple and easy to understand chart by BillShrink that puts AT&T’s iPhone 3GS, Sprint’s Palm Pre, Verizon’s Motorola Droid and T-Mobile’s Nexus One against each other in a feature and total cost of ownership comparison. Over 24 months, Palm Pre and Nexus One cost cheaper than the iPhone and Droid by around $1000 for an unlimited plan. While the minimum plan costs for the Palm Pre and Nexus One are cheaper too.
