Google’s next big release of Android will be code named Ice Cream Sandwich, and will be available by the fourth quarter of this year. This will be Google’s attempt to solve it’s OS fragmentation issues, with this version uniting all their devices, including phones and tablets. One new featured noted by Google is support for standard USB peripherals, meaning Ice Cream Sandwich will be able to connect with external devices such as keyboards, trackpads, controllers, etc without any additional hacking or tweaking. In relation to Google’s I/O event, they have launched their Music Beta service, by invite only, today. Music Beta allows users to store their music in the cloud and sync it wirelessly to their devices. Currently, they only mention this working on Android devices, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this worked with iOS as well, just not natively of course. Read more...

Google has finally released it’s Chrome Canary build for Mac. Canary is Google Chrome’s Developer builds, which google is numbering version 13. The current release of Chrome is at Version 11, with the beta builds at version 12. This means a few things, the builds are very unstable and are very frequent. Security is not guaranteed so you should use Canary along side another version of Chrome. I would avoid doing any shopping or putting any personal information into a web page using the browser. It’s been a few days since Google announced Android 2.3.4 for Nexus S and Nexus One. The new update brings video and voice chat through Google Talk along with a few bug fixes. But, as with all Android updates, the roll out is gradual and it may be sometime before you get it. For those of the impatient ones amongst us with Nexus S phones, here’s a proper guide for you to manually upgrade your phones to Android 2.3.4 ( from Android 2.3.3 ) to try out and enjoy the new video and voice chat functionality. Skype’s Android client has jut been updated to not only fix the embarassing “data hole” in the application, which was caused by lack of encryption usage on the database files which store contact information and chat history, but also brings the ability to make FREE Skype VoIP calls over your cell phone’s 3G data connection in addition to WiFi. It was a blessing when Google launched Google Docs, no need to download and install a word processors, you could do it all on your browser. Slowly improving and adding new old features from your basic word processor, Google Docs eradicates the need of another word processor for me. I’ve always found it annoying that there were no page breaks and I couldn’t keep track of how long my document was. Google has finally introduced Pagination, which basically means that you won’t have an endless Google document anymore. Pagination is being rolled out to everyone today. Read more...
