Gmail, the free e-mail service provided by Google, is full of great features. Users are given plenty of storage space, the ability to instant message other gmail users, and access to googledocs, Google’s free online alternative to program suites like Microsoft Office or iWork. Unfortunately, along with these great features come some not-so-great ones. The toolbar along the left-hand side is crowded, advertisements take up precious screen space, and a variety of other little annoyances can make the gmail experience less pleasing to the user. The solution: a simple plugin for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox called Minimalist Gmail. Here’s how to install it: Read more...

The iPhone Dev Team is really rolling out these redsn0w 0.9.7 betas quickly. Just yesterday, redsn0w 0.9.7b5 was pushed out ( Mac only ) which fixed Bluetooth issues that users were facing. Today, the 6th beta has been released which fixes Skype issues. Also, you can now run beta 6 over beta 5 instead of restoring iOS and then running the newest beta of redsn0w. But the Dev Team wants users to test the tool both ways, by clean restore and also by upgrading from already jailbroken. Read more...

The iPhone Dev Team is working hard at their backup plan to iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. They’ve released the fifth beta release of redsn0w 0.9.7 which further advances their efforts. While this will help you if you have iOS 4.2b3 firmware and iOS 4.2b3 SHSH hashes in Cydia, it’s advised you don’t try this unless you’re a registered iPhone Dev with legal access to iOS 4.2b3 firmware. Don’t pirate it please!

Microsoft released the 6th Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 9 for developers, a few days ago at PDC 2010. In line with all previous platform previews, this build doesn’t have a proper UI for normal use since it’s aimed towards developers. Microsoft must think developers have no life. But they have leaked out a secret method to upgrade Internet Explorer 9 Beta to the platform preview 6 engine to gain all the new features and improvements of it while retaining the new UI. The instructions were handed out to Ars Technica by Microsoft, but we’ve made it even more easier to do so, along with a downloadable package that you can just extract and use if you don’t want to go into the technical mess.
