iOS 5 is by far Apple’s greatest OS yet. However, since the release of iOS 4, Apple has began to include multitasking as a feature. As nice as this is, it can sometimes cause your phone to start to slow down or you notice the battery is draining more than normal. Before, you would have to hit your home button twice, hold down on one of the apps, and close each one individually. Now, in iOS 5 we have the Notification Center, which allows us to see our important information with just a swipe down on the top bar. Weekillbackground is a jailbreak tweak that adds a quick way to close all your apps running in the background right from the notification center. Read more...

Even though it’s been some time since the iPhone Dev Team publically made available untethered jailbreak tools for iOS 5.0.1, they’ve been working hard to fix the remaining issues. Normally when a music or video app is running, its icon shows in the application switcher tray in iOS. A few examples of such apps are the Music (formally iPod), YouTube and Vevo. How cool would it be if instead of the icon, the album art of the currently playing son shows instead of the Music app? Well, we aren’t sure since that’s not one area we see often, but you can find out by installing AlbumArt in AppSwitcher tweak from Cydia. Read more...

iOS 5.0.1 update hasn’t done much wonders for users for their battery life woes but it has introduced a new bug which messes up the address book for iPhone 4S users on Verizon. What it does is that it removes the contact’s name and shows just their number in the text contact field or when someone calls the user. Basically, it’s as if you just saved a number and not the contact’s name even though that’s not the case. Read more...

So much has been written on Steve Jobs by long time users and industry veterans – people who loved him and hated him. I hadn’t written my take on his death yet as it’s difficult to accept that someone you admire isn’t there anymore. Most love him because of the products he made, the successes he had and how he made technology and creativity tango like they’re meant to be. I was inspired when I found out who he was and how he viewed life. Read more...

Facebook has updated their Messenger app for iPhone and iPod Touch with support for iOS 5 and turned it into more of a chat/messaging app hybrid. It was initially just a simple messaging app but has now gained status indicators to show which contacts are online and which are on mobile. During a conversation, typing indicator is also shown making it essentially a stand alone Facebook chat app as well as a quick way to access your inbox. Read more...

For all those in the dark, or who just forgot, pre-orders for the new iPhone 4S begin tomorrow morning at 12:01 PDT. That is in approximately 1 hour. I am online and waiting to get mine, and so should you. Expect to see some weird activity, as the site will be getting hit hard with lots more people trying to get their phone. If you really want, wait until the morning to do your pre-order. Traffic will have slowed and it will be less frustrating to get your order in. Read more...
