We covered Frash’s arrival to iPhone earlier today. It involved a lengthy process of SSH-ing into your iPhone using a PC or Mac and then copying the frash.deb file into a folder, after creating a couple of folders. The whole process has been made as easy as adding a Cydia repo and installing a package. Read more...

PDF Loading Warner was released as a way to keep jailbreakers secure from the PDF flaw that exists in iOS. While Apple are taking their sweet time to provide users with an update ( probably trying to jailbreak/unlock proof the next update more than focusing on actual user security ), PDF Loading Warner was made available via Cydia to provide an extra layer of security. Everytime you load up a PDF file, PDF Loading Warner asks you for confirmation. Kind of like UAC in Windows.

There are many reasons to jailbreak your iPhone such as My3G to enable FaceTime over 3G or MyWi for wireless tethering or iTether for tethering over Bluetooth. Add another reason to the list: Grant Pannell has managed to compile a version of Frash (Flash) that works on iPhone so you can run Flash on your jailbroken iPhone 4 as well as on iPhone 3GS and 3G. JailbreakMe has to be the easiest and simplest jailbreak solution in recent times. Sadly, it doesn’t enable the disabled-by-default-by-Apple iOS 4 features for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G i.e. multitasking and home screen wallpapers. Personally, I wouldn’t dare enabling these features as they take the life out of these devices and slow them down terribly, but some people like to have the option available. You can use zToggle to enable or disable multitasking and background wallpapers on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G on the go.

A new tweak on Cydia called Cicero lets you customize your search engines in Safari. I had been waiting a long time for a tweak like this to add Bing to Safari before iOS 4. Cicero lets you add any search engine that complies with OpenSearch standards ( almost all major search engines and site specific search engines do this. for e.g. YouTube, Wikipedia etc ). This allows you to do site specific searches without loading up the website first. Blessing in disguise. Read more...

A popular method of tethering your non-3G iPad with iPhone’s data connection is by installing MyWi and using it as a WiFi access point. The problem with using MyWi is that it uses WiFi which uses a lot of battery power. The solution to this problem is to use iTether which tethers your data connection using Bluetooth by creating a Personal Area Network ( PAN ). iTether has to be installed on the device which will connect to your iPhone with tethering enabled. When tethering is turned on, your iPad/iPod Touch or iPhone can easily connect to it and share the data connection.
