Windows 7 has really spurred on developers to create new apps that make the best use of the new taskbar features such as jumplists, button and progress bar overlays. Here are a couple of new applications called Taskbar Meters, available on CodePlex that show CPU utilization or memory utilization in the taskbar using the progress bar overlays.

Firefox 3.7 to get the Office Ribbon UI
Firefox has the worst UI amongst all the popular browsers. Almost all other browsers ( IE, Chrome, Safari ) have a new and better UI along with some sort of Windows 7 integration ( Aero Glass, jumplists, Aero Peek, thumbnail previews etc ), where as Firefox has none. The UI is still stuck in the Windows XP era. Mozilla has plans to change all that with Firefox 3.7 release.
iTunes 9 has support for Windows 7 jumplists
You can count on Apple to not mention this feature in the list. Apparently, iTunes 9 has support for jumplists in Windows 7. It shows two tasks which take you to the iTunes Store or to the iTunes Store search. Like Safari 4 jumplists, it’s a welcome addition by Apple to use this feature in their software.
Google Chrome gets Jumplists in Windows 7 with the latest Dev update
Office 2010 will also use JumpLists in Windows 7
Long Zheng posted a few blurry screenshots of Office 2010 a couple of days ago from a TechEd 2009 keynote. Here’s another one from Techradar who have posted a first look at Office 2010, covering the many upcoming changes in Outlook. This screenshot shows Outlook making use of Windows 7’s Jumplists which shortcuts to create a new email message, appointment, contact or a task. The taskbar button also shows when new mail is available just like Windows Live Mail does now.
