Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5 (beta developers preview) give you access to iCloud beta services which, along with content syncing, also includes setting up your personalized “@me.com” email ID for free, which previously used to be a commercial commodity in the era of MobileMe. However, once you do sign up for an account, you need to have access to either an iOS 5 beta build or iCloud beta for Mac OS X (Lion) in order to check you “@me.com” email.

Along with OS X Lion 10.7.2 combo update, Apple has also pushed iCloud beta 5 to the developers. This beta however only works if you update to 10.7.2 (developers’s preview) so if you’ve already got your hands on that, you might like to give this a try too. Please note that this is yet another beta release since iCloud has not yet been released to public. It is intended exclusively for developers so before you proceed, backup your files offline in addition to the iCloud storage.
