A cool new tweak coming soon to the Cydia store will bring turn-by-turn navigation to the iOS’s native Google Maps app. Before this, iPhone users have been using expensive third party apps with most of them only working in US and Canada for voice assistance. The tweak would definitely add to the growing list of reasons why one should jailbreak the iPhone. There is no word yet on when the tweak will be released or how much will it cost. Read more...

Location is currently one of the hottest topics in the software industry and a number of top companies are working on it. Google can be considered the giant of this field but Apple also likes to be in control when it comes to their own devices. TechCrunch have reported that with iOS 3.2 for iPad in April, Apple started relying on their own database for location based services and utilizing it with Google Maps data for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Apple revealed this earlier this month while responding to federal legislators about privacy concerns. Here is what Apple said in the statement: Read more...

Google’s Super Bowl ad is mild and uncontroversial. In other words it’s boring. But just like everything Google does, this is simple and effective. It actually shows the reality of our lives – we’re all so dependant on Google in our daily lives, whether it’s on our desktops, notebooks, netbooks, smartphones, dumb phones or even portable personal computers like the iPod Touch. This ad portrays the effect Google has on our life, from searches to Maps, translations and learning new things. If this doesn’t make you smile, nothing will. Or maybe the Motorola Devour Super Bowl commercial with Megan Fox will.

I’ve been using Hotmail regularly since a year now. I had shifted over to Gmail, but switched back somehow. But, I haven’t been a fan of the wave 3 updates so far in Hotmail. It has gone downhill in some departments while improved in others. Of course they can’t satisfy everybody’s taste, but I haven’t seen many people happy with the changes. A couple of new updates have been rolled out now which include Read more...
- A web messenger in Hotmail, that disappears on its own from the service. Unfortunately, it isn’t appearing at this time of writing for me But having used it, all I can say is that it’s the worst Inbox-IM integration I’ve ever seen. Gmail does it the best, with Yahoo a close second. With Hotmail, you wont be able to see which contacts are online, you’ll have to search your address book. Although you can see if the sender of a particular email is online, but it still doesn’t work how IM should. Chat boxes open up in new windows which is another let down for me.
- A map tool in email composing. It’s a great addition and I can think of many uses for it.
