Apple is all set to show off its iOS 5 plans and a new look MobileMe service at an event which would be held as soon as this April, according to a German website. MobileMe, the popular email & contacts syncing service from Apple, is widely believed to become free at the next month’s Apple event in Cupertino, California. Apple has made iOS 4.2 public today and with it has also announced that the MobileMe feature ‘Find My iPhone, iPad or iPod touch’ is now totally free for any iPhone 4, iPad, or fourth-generation iPod touch running iOS 4.2. The feature helps you locate your missing device and protect its data. However Apple seems to have restricted this feature to iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, and iPad. But it now appears you can get it working on iPhone 3GS and other unsupported devices as well. Read more...

Apple will be updating MobileMe with new features soon says MacRumors. They’ve received tips that the beta of the redesigned Mail interface will go final and receive real-time updating of new emails. This functionality is already available in competing services such as Gmail. MobileMe services will also see the removal of the toolbar used for accessing the services with a single application switching icon. Read more...

Apple has rolled out Mac OS X 10.6.2 update. Apple regards this update as a release, that focuses on security, compatibility and stability aspects. Mac OS X 10.6.2 is the second update to be rolled out since the launch of Snow Leopard, three months back. Mac OS X 10.6.2 fixes the Guest Account Bug, which deleted user’s data when the user logged in as a Guest. It also brings an end to Intel Atom support which is bad news for hackintosh netbooks who want to upgrade to 10.6.2. The second Mac OS X update is said to contain fixes for more than 30 bugs.
