Let’s do a little time travel together. The year is 1976, we are in a California garage with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak who think they are going to change the world. They begin building the Apple 1 personal computer kit and sell it for $666.66. They incorporate the company in 1977 and the rest is history. Now lets go back to 2011. Apple now has over 46,000 employees worldwide and is the Most Valuable Company in the World. That’s right, in 45 years, they went from a garage, to now being the most valuable company, in the world! We have reported in the past that Apple will likely be releasing an iPad 3 or iPad HD this year, but those rumors appear to be debunked. There were also rumors from LG that they would have a Retina Display ready for the iPad 3 as well. Digitimes is now stating that a Retina Display won’t be ready for mass production for at least another year. Read more...

Along with todays release of Apple’s iCloud.com beta, Apple has also released the cost for iCloud upgrades. The pricing will be on a yearly basis, and seems fairly reasonable for storage space. Remember that your pictures don’t count against your tally. The storage would be used for media and backups of your device, or even devices. You can get a 10GB, 20GB or even a 50GB upgrade to your account, and everyone will still get 5GB free. The upgrade can be purchased in the iCloud Settings on your iOS device, if you are using iOS 5. See the screenshot below for the official image from iOS 5’s iCloud settings. Read more...

I had been planning on starting a section on Apps for Windows since some time now, and no better way to start with version 2 of one of my favorite applications, The New York Times Reader. Previously based on WPF, and now shifted to Adobe Air, for cross platform compatibility, the new Times Reader 2.0 is available for Windows, Linux and OS X users. It contains some new enhancements over version 1, but most of the changes have been cosmetic. It really looks as if it was designed for the Mac only, if you take a cue from the new UI. It’s clean and slightly gray, with excellent typography and streamlined navigation. While the application itself is free, along with some of the news sections, you’ll have to shell out $3.45/week for full access. That shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the free version though, as it could cater most users very well with its variety of content. The available news sections increases on Sunday, with Magazine being the added free section for that day with several other paid ones.
