<Category: Apple, iPhone> No comment

Farmville for iPhone Don’t read on if you hate Farmville. For all others, Christmas has come early. Farmville is a very popular Facebook game which lets you create a farm and then look after it. Since the game is made on Flash, a lot of people used it as an excuse to blast iPhone’s lack of the runtime. But recently at WWDC10, Farmville for iPhone was demoed on stage by Zynga.

Windows Phone 7 SeriesThe major question in everyone’s mind has been whether Windows Phone 7 Series will support multi-tasking or not. We know that it will have push notifications built into the OS just like the iPhone, but now Mary Jo Foley has confirmation that just like the iPhone, it also wouldn’t allow third party apps to run in the background. Google and Yahoo have push email support on the iPhone and iPod Touch along with wonderful mobile UX, but sadly, apart from an ugly mobile UI, the Windows Live team hasn’t provided anything for Hotmail users on these devices. Mail Notifier fixes this problem and provides real time push notifications for unread email for Hotmail, along with Gmail and AOL.

Push notifications for comments on your WordPress blog

Push notifications are all the craze nowadays for iPhone/iPod Touch users. If you’re a blogger like me, you probably love Push notifications to get quick alerts of what ever is happening around you or the latest tweets you get ( via Boxcar and the likes ) and so on. I recently installed WPtouch for www.ithinkdiff.com ( this blog, duh! ) and found out a pleasant surprise that it enables push notifications for new comments and pingbacks on your blog.

It does so through an application called Prowl (available for $2.99 in the App Store) and a plug-in installed on your blog. The plug-in uses the Prowl API to notify it when there are new comments/pingbacks, a message from a reader or even new user accounts on your blog which is in turn sent to your iPhone/iPod Touch as a Push Notification. Here’s a small guide on how to get push notifications up and running.
