iPad 2 Will Not Have Retina Display! [Report]

I’m sure most of you have already placed bets on iPad 2 getting a Retina Display after all those rumors and some very convincing facts. However, according to John Gruber’s latest report, it appears the iPad 2 won’t be getting a Retina Display after all. His impeccable sources have led him to believe that iPad 2 will run at the same 1024 x 768 resolution as the first-gen iPad. No matter how badly Apple wants to give it a Retina Display, it seems it just isn’t economically feasible at the moment.

Ever since iOS 4.3 beta 1 has come out, there’s been a lot of digging going on with lots of interesting facts being revealed regarding what the screen resolution of next-gen iPad or simply the iPad 2 will be. Yesterday, the supposed Camera.app of iPad 2 was extracted out of the iOS 4.3 SDK which hinted at no improvement in resolution over the current 1024 x 768. Now, another interesting evidence discovered by MacRumors tells a totally different story.

iOS 4.3 Reveals New iPad 2 Camera, No Retina Display!

iOS 4.3 beta 1 was dropped by Apple a couple of days back that has brought a handful of new features to the iOS. Meanwhile, lots of “digging” has been going on into the iOS 4.3 SDK that has revealed some interesting facts. Folks at 9to5Mac have discovered some files in the latest SDK which strongly suggest that iPad 2 will be getting a second camera at the back in addition to the front-facing FaceTime camera. They have basically extracted some shutter screens and camera / video icons similar to the ones found in camera app of iPhone and iPod touch as pictured in the screenshot below.

Little Evidence of the next iPad or iPad Mini having a Retina Display

We have been hearing rumors since months about Apple launching an iPad Mini in the latter part of this year. Yesterday, iLounge also reported that Apple is working on 7 inch iPad and it will be available later this year, probably in time for Christmas holidays. According to 9to5Mac, this mini iPad will have a Retina display with a high density resolution of 1500×2000. Macstories has some interesting findings which hint at the possibility of an iPad mini with a Retina display.
