<Category: Chrome OS, Google> No comment

There haven’t been much news on Chrome OS lately, possibly due to new developments in the netbook/tablet computing scenarios such as the iPad and loads of Android tablets and netbooks coming out of the horizon. But from the latest screenshots discovered by TechCrunch, Google seems to be quietly working on making it a viable alternative OS.

Firefox 4.0 Windows Theme Mockups

<Category: Internet> 6 Comments

A few day ago, Firefox 3.7 mockups were discovered which made good use of Aero Glass available in Windows Vista and 7. Now, mockups for Firefox 4.0 have surfaced on the Mozilla Wiki which aren’t too different than the previous ones, but show some interesting new additions to the UI. Two versions are proposed, the conventional Tabs on bottom, and the Chrome like tabs on top. The stop and go buttons as well as the location of Tools button really seems inspired from Google Chrome. After Safari 4, Firefox seems to be taking some lessons from Chrome over browser UI.

Check out the complete mockups below. But let’s hope that they fix the memory issues with Firefox before changing the UI.

Google Chrome OS Private Developer Beta

Some guy claims to have taken pictures of an early developer Beta of Google Chrome OS. He works with some company who supplies parts for Acer laptops and got a chance to take the pictures because he was the last person to leave the room and had his mini cam with him. He also says he is "putting my career and notability on the line in this”.

While I wont bet on this, I’m amazed at how much information he has given out in the bold parts. It’ll be very easy for Acer or Google to find out who he is and sack him. Also, if it was such a private demo, how come he was allowed to have a mini cam with him? Also, the Google logo shown in the wallpaper is very different than the official Google logo. Notice the difference in letter colors.

Windows 7 build 7082 Screenshots.

<Category: Windows 7> No comment

As 5th May comes closer, and we all anxiously wait for the Release Candidate of Windows 7, build 7082 screenshots have been posted PCBeta. The images are from a Chinese language version, so we all know where they came from. From what I could tell from the translated version of the page, this is another build from the RC branch. Not much new to see in this version visually, apart from the rounded taskbar buttons that make it somewhat easier for some people to differentiate between open and closed applications. No signs of any new theme or new icons either. But, just for your viewing pleasure, here they are.

P.S. It shouldn’t be hard to guess why some of your comments aren’t allowed. I will never post links to any leaked builds, neither search them for you. So, kindly stop asking. Also, this is not a leaked build.

Office 14 alpha screenshots leaked

<Category: Microsoft, Windows> 4 Comments

Office 14 alpha was recently released to TAP, and the screenshots have already been leaked by a Russian website WZor.Net. The UI looks a lot whiter, just like the new Windows 7 explorer and Windows Live apps UI. According to Stephen Chapman, Office 14 will be called Microsoft Office System 2009, which points out to a release this year.

The Fluent UI, or commonly known as ‘Ribbon’ is still there and now it’s spread among all applications of the Office System 2009 unlike in Office 2007, where Outlook, Visio and some other applications retained the older file menu UI. It seems to make for a uniform UI across all the applications now.

Check out the rest of the screenshots after the break.
