Being a power user of Gmail, it always used to interest me as to how I’m using Gmail – what are the statistics apart from the space usage that’s always shown in Gmail. Recently, I stumbled upon this cool script in Google Docs scripts gallery that shows you details on how many conversations you’ve had in am month, how many emails have been sent and received, trashed, marked important and starred. You can also find out how the top senders and recipients are for that email inbox and much more. Follow the instructions below to use it. Read more...

Apple’s iMovie application has been known as an easy to use, fun video editing tool. However, iMovie ’08 was missing a feature that had it’s creator, Glenn Reid, very upset. Unlike previous iMovie versions, ’08 did not feature timeline editing. Instead, video wrapped around at the edge of the screen like text. Apple has since caved to user requests regarding timeline editing. The new iMovie ’11 offers the ability to switch between editing modes. Here’s how to get iMovie from this: Read more...

Another gripe every user has with iTunes 10, apart from the colorless icons, is that what the heck were Apple thinking when they went against their own human interface guidelines with the vertical spotlight buttons? Even Microsoft or Google don’t do such grave mistakes when designing user interfaces. Thank God for the Apple friendly Internetz else they deserved to be on the receiving end of harsh criticism.

Most of you would have definitely seen the concept images of iWatch which looked nice but I never thought Apple would design anything like a touch watch. It would be useless as far as I am concerned. But looks like the new iPod Nano is small enough that somebody actually used his new iPod Nano as a watch. Read more...

A new tweak on Cydia called Cicero lets you customize your search engines in Safari. I had been waiting a long time for a tweak like this to add Bing to Safari before iOS 4. Cicero lets you add any search engine that complies with OpenSearch standards ( almost all major search engines and site specific search engines do this. for e.g. YouTube, Wikipedia etc ). This allows you to do site specific searches without loading up the website first. Blessing in disguise. Read more...

The great thing about SATA hard drives is that you don’t have to mess around with the jumpers to change drives from slave to master or master to slave. I was installing Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ today and got stuck on this issue where it showed my primary hard drive, which is just 80GB, as the primary and would refuse to run the installation since WHS ‘Vail’ requires at least 160GB on the primary drive. My 1TB hard drive showed up as the secondary drive. Opening up my server just to change the settings wasn’t a pleasant thought either. But then I stumbled upon a simple fix. Here’s what I did.

Apple, with AT&T, has managed to provide a very attractive unlimited data plan to use with the iPad 3G. Since the iPad 3G uses a microSIM and the iPhone uses a regular SIM, it isn’t as simple as trying to pop in the the microSIM in the iPhone SIM card tray and using the unlimited data package. Before you say that Office 2010 Starter Edition will be available for free, read this: this tip is for the full versions of Office 2010 such as Professional and so on. Just like Windows, Office 2010 runs for 30 days as a trial without being activated with a product key. After this trial period, it can be re-armed to run for another 30 days. This grace period can be extended 5 times, which means you can use it for 6 months without activating. Read more...

Microsoft has introduced a new ‘start page’ that opens up by clicking the button in the top left corner of Office 2010. According to Rafael, it’s know by its codename which is ‘Outspace’ so far. It provides quick access to various tasks in a very clean and simple manner although can be confusing for those used to the Office 2007 button behavior which showed an upside down ‘start menu’ when clicked. Rafael has found a way to switch this behavior back to the 2007 style in Office 2010. Here’s how: Read more...
