This is a pleasant surprise for us Windows Phone 7 users. Flickr has announced an upcoming app for Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7 that easily puts the iPhone version and the non-existent iPad version to shame. It makes great use of panoramic UI, home screen tiles and the interactive UX of Windows Phone 7 which just can’t be matched by any other platform out there at the moment. We just hope the performance is on par with the native apps in Windows Phone 7. Read more...

Steve Ballmer isn’t one to be impressed easily. When he said that iPad sold more than he would have liked, it was obvious he doesn’t like it. He is representative of the general approach towards tablets/slates by Microsoft. They just don’t get them. Cramming a desktop operating system since more than a decade into a tablet hasn’t been fruitful for them, but still this is the strategy they’re gunning for to take down the iPad. Yes, it’s stupid but funny at the same time.

Google has updated the look and feel of its search results by bringing in some new elements in their user interface. At first sight I thought they are a little bit inspired by the colorful Bing interface. These changes would make search easier and better to find exactly what they are looking for. Read more...

ObsessionXYZ over at ModMyi forums seems to be very impressed with the TouchFlo3D UI. So much that, he’s working on creating a theme for the iPhone which faithfully recreates the animated and rich user experience that the UI offers. To accomplish this feat, he has gone to great extents such as rewriting a lot of code. So far he has been able to create the animated clock and weather widget with tap to update capability. Check out the video demo after the jump for a sneak peak. Read more...

While doing some ‘ego searching’ today, I stumbled across this new Google Search results UI. It looks a lot cleaner than the current UI and a lot less colorful as well. The currently search selection has colored buttons while other search types have colorless images. Weirdly though, navigating to either of them brings back the old UI. Read more...

Stephen Horlander, Product Visual Designer at Mozilla has posted some updated UI concepts for the upcoming Firefox 4.0 on his blog. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen concept screenshots from Mozilla for Firefox 4.0. They’ve been working hard on redesigning the UI, ever since Google Chrome changed the game for browsers. A hint of this can also be seen in Opera 10.50 leaked build which features a complete redesign and integration of Windows 7 Aero features. Read more...

The highlights of the iPod Classic and Nano lineup are the innovative click wheel and UI that make navigating thousands of songs, pictures and videos a piece of cake. This click wheel plus UI combo had become the trademark feature of the iPod lineup until the iPhone and iPod Touch came in with their new Music app which has a touch friendly UI with sliding menus but not the click wheel navigation. Aero Shake is one of the coolest features in Windows 7 that lets you shake on application’s Windows which minimizes the everything else. It’s really awesome and has been shown in Windows 7 advertisements too. Ever wondered about the developers who worked on this innovative feature? Song Zou, principle development lead for the Windows Core Experience Team and a Microsoftie for 12 years helped create the Windows 7 taskbar as well as the Aero Shake feature. Read more...

Firefox has the worst UI amongst all the popular browsers. Almost all other browsers ( IE, Chrome, Safari ) have a new and better UI along with some sort of Windows 7 integration ( Aero Glass, jumplists, Aero Peek, thumbnail previews etc ), where as Firefox has none. The UI is still stuck in the Windows XP era. Mozilla has plans to change all that with Firefox 3.7 release. Read more...

A few day ago, Firefox 3.7 mockups were discovered which made good use of Aero Glass available in Windows Vista and 7. Now, mockups for Firefox 4.0 have surfaced on the Mozilla Wiki which aren’t too different than the previous ones, but show some interesting new additions to the UI. Two versions are proposed, the conventional Tabs on bottom, and the Chrome like tabs on top. The stop and go buttons as well as the location of Tools button really seems inspired from Google Chrome. After Safari 4, Firefox seems to be taking some lessons from Chrome over browser UI.
Check out the complete mockups below. But let’s hope that they fix the memory issues with Firefox before changing the UI. Read more...
