Firefox 3.7 might have full support for Aero glass in Windows Vista and 7 as evident from some mockups available in the Mozilla Wiki. These are only mockups of what it might look like, but don’t raise your expectations to high. Microsoft has introduced a new ‘start page’ that opens up by clicking the button in the top left corner of Office 2010. According to Rafael, it’s know by its codename which is ‘Outspace’ so far. It provides quick access to various tasks in a very clean and simple manner although can be confusing for those used to the Office 2007 button behavior which showed an upside down ‘start menu’ when clicked. The folks at Engadget just keep getting their hands on the Zune HD, one way or the other. They’ve got another new hands on video of the Zune HD up and it shows the same eye candy that we’ve already seen. As you’ll see in the video, the Zune HD is slimmer than the iPhone, and looks really small in the user’s hands. Yes, there’s nothing else new to see in the video if you’ve already seen the past hands on videos. I can’t wonder why they couldn’t just use the browser in the video for demonstration. Rafael from WithinWindows has done it again. He has discovered a new logon UI background customization trick that Microsoft has put in Windows 7 for OEMs. It requires a registry change and a few folder changes but does it without the need of any third party tools or hacks.

This does require a bit of work to get it working. First of all you’ll have to enable the functionality in the registry by creating ( if missing ) a DWORD value named OEMBackground in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background and enable its value to 1 or to 0 if you want to disable the functionality. Permalink: Easily change your Logon Background in Windows 7!

Office 14 alpha was recently released to TAP, and the screenshots have already been leaked by a Russian website WZor.Net. The UI looks a lot whiter, just like the new Windows 7 explorer and Windows Live apps UI. According to Stephen Chapman, Office 14 will be called Microsoft Office System 2009, which points out to a release this year.

The Fluent UI, or commonly known as ‘Ribbon’ is still there and now it’s spread among all applications of the Office System 2009 unlike in Office 2007, where Outlook, Visio and some other applications retained the older file menu UI. It seems to make for a uniform UI across all the applications now.
