Today, an official announcement from the iPhone Dev-Team member @MuscleNerd confirms that an update to the ultrasn0w software unlocking solution for iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.1 will be released in the next few days. Though he stressed once again that its merely an iOS 4.3.1 compatibility fix for already unlock-able basebands by the current ultrasn0w version. We all know how hard Dev-Team has been working on coming up with an iPhone 4 unlocking solution for basebands 02.10.01 & 03.10.01 by updating ultrasn0w for many months now. They had also hinted previously to have found iPhone 3G/3GS unlock vectors while on the hunt for an iPhone 4 unlock. However as of now, the Dev-Team isn’t revealing much about their progress on the expected NCK iPhone 4 unlock or an ETA for its release. For those who don’t know, the NCK unlock is a new method discovered for unlocking iPhone 4 which is found to be only of 40 Bits (5 digits) which can theoretically be cracked with a brute force attack. It seems that the developer behind antid0te, the future jailbreak solution based on ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization), has secretly been working on an iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak. His name is Stefan Esser aka @i0n1c who has just released a demo video on YouTube showing his success in discovering a new untethered exploit. This surely comes as a pleasant surprise for CDMA carriers as some employees of China Telecom seem to have hacked the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4 to make it work on their network. Though the CDMA iPhone 4 has already been jailbroken with greenpois0n but no unlock solution has yet been released or announced. It will be interesting to see how Dev-Team hackers react to this news. The first ever non-GSM iPhone was announced today by Verizon i.e the CDMA iPhone 4. We also know by now that this newest iPhone is running iOS 4.2.5, something not yet found on any current iOS device. So what does this mean to the jailbreaking / unlocking community? Well, its basically not the iOS which is gonna be a problem since Geohot’s bootrom level exploit found in both limera1n and greenpois0n jailbreak tools can pwn all the current iPhones, iPods and iPads on any future iOS firmware updates, be it iOS 4.2.5, iOS 4.3 or beyond.
