It’s clearly obvious that apps on iOS are just a different ball game altogether when compared to their Android versions. Take the Facebook app as an example. Although it got an upgrade yesterday, it still doesn’t match the speed and features of its iOS version. Similarly, Twitter for Android has also received an upgrade, bringing it on par to its iOS sibling in terms of feature set. It brings features that iOS users are already used to, such as, Pull to Refresh, Swipe to Reveal, Tweet Details Page and much more. Read more...

Microsoft released the 6th Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 9 for developers, a few days ago at PDC 2010. In line with all previous platform previews, this build doesn’t have a proper UI for normal use since it’s aimed towards developers. Microsoft must think developers have no life. But they have leaked out a secret method to upgrade Internet Explorer 9 Beta to the platform preview 6 engine to gain all the new features and improvements of it while retaining the new UI. The instructions were handed out to Ars Technica by Microsoft, but we’ve made it even more easier to do so, along with a downloadable package that you can just extract and use if you don’t want to go into the technical mess. Netflix App has gotten an update and now supports video out on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. Weirdly, they’ve left out iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G users out for the new feature. Keep in mind that iPhone 3GS is still being sold as an 8GB model, so it’s a really stupid decision on the company’s behalf to not support video out on a current product. The Netflix app is a universal binary so this also means that video out isn’t supported for the iPad too. Read more...

Apple has updated its browser with the release of Safari 5.0.1. It now features support for extensions as Apple has introduced Safari Extensions Gallery with it. Apple had initially introduced extensions support with Safari 5 so that developers could start working on extensions with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript web standards. These extensions by third party developers allow users to extend browser functionality far beyond what is offered in the basic browser. Apart from the new extensions, the browser update also fixes some issues like the address book bug which allowed anyone to steal data with a few lines of code. Read more...
