It came with no surprise when Google Cr-48, the first ever Chrome OS laptop was found running Ubuntu a couple of weeks ago as reported by engadget. Well, it sure doesn’t end there does it? It now appears that hackers have successfully managed to install and run Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X Snow Leopard on the Cr-48. It is believed that Google built Cr-48 with “hacking in mind” but running Windows 7 and Mac OS X full on, wasn’t on the menu for sure!

Microsoft has released a new plug-in that lets Firefox take advantage of Windows 7′s native H.264 support. Firefox at the moment doesn’t support H.264 but Windows 7 does. The plug-in scans for HTML5 video tags and passes the video to the Windows Media Player plug-in for playback.

Apple have released an update to iTunes, version 10.1.1 which contains a few important bug fixes. I haven’t faced any of these issues but it’s always good to stay up to date just to be safe. The update is really small, just 39.4 MB as compared to the huge updates we normally get for iTunes.

While Apple has always been the one pointing out the PC platform as somehow outdated then Mac is, with all the viruses, slow downs (available on Mac too as an unadvertised feature) and such issues (Mac has other issues too), Microsoft has almost always replied in a nice manner. Keeping in line with the tradition, Microsoft have aired a new Windows 7 commercial on YouTube which shows Mac and PC taking a flight together.Windows 7

<Category: Internet Explorer, Microsoft> Only 1 comment

Microsoft released the 6th Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 9 for developers, a few days ago at PDC 2010. In line with all previous platform previews, this build doesn’t have a proper UI for normal use since it’s aimed towards developers. Microsoft must think developers have no life. But they have leaked out a secret method to upgrade Internet Explorer 9 Beta to the platform preview 6 engine to gain all the new features and improvements of it while retaining the new UI. The instructions were handed out to Ars Technica by Microsoft, but we’ve made it even more easier to do so, along with a downloadable package that you can just extract and use if you don’t want to go into the technical mess.

Windows Product Scout is Microsoft’s App Store. Sort of. For now.

Talk about timing. Just when Apple announced that they’ll be launching a Mac App Store, Microsoft has unveiled Windows Product Scout which is sort of a half baked App Store. Not only does it let you search cool applications but also some useful hardware that should work well with Windows 7. I actually found a few applications for Windows Touch which I was previously unaware of, thanks to this useful website.

Internet Explorer 9 Beta Review

It’s been a few days since Internet Explorer 9 Beta was made available for download for Windows Vista and Windows 7 in many different languages. Microsoft did some major changes to the UI and the underlying rendering engine as well making it way faster than any before as well as more standards compliant. How a JavaScript engine is integrated into the browser is as important as the engine itself for real-world JavaScript and HTML5 performance. Microsoft started from the premise that the modern web will deliver HTML5 experiences. Accordingly, Internet Explorer 9’s Acid3 score has continued to rise and it now scores 95/100 which is totally GOOD.
