Microsoft takes down Hardware Virtualization requirement for XP mode in Windows 7

<Category: Microsoft, Windows, Windows 7> No comment

Windows 7 is packed with a really cool feature called Windows XP mode. The whole aim of XP mode is to allow users to run apps from Windows XP which aren’t compatible with Windows 7, but sadly some people weren’t able to use Windows XP mode because it required hardware virtualization. Microsoft has taken down that barrier as well.

Apps for Windows: Get weather information in Windows 7 Taskbar using WeatherBar

<Category: Apps for Windows, Microsoft, Windows, Windows 7> No comment

In my opinion, the new taskbar or Superbar in Windows 7 is probably the best feature in the operating system. Jumplists and lively taskbar buttons have really given developers opportunities to create excellent widgets, even better than what you can get with the Windows Gadgets platform. Some widgets we have covered in the past include a Gmail notifier, 7Stacks, StandaloneStack and Taskbar Meters. Lee Matthews from Download Squad has covered a taskbar widget called WeatherBar which puts weather information in the taskbar. WeatherBar uses tasbkar overlays, jumplists and taskbar button progress bar to show information at just a glance.

Windows 7 has an excellent built-in platform and API which can help third party developers to create native applications for Windows 7 that are location-aware. However, the only mistake Microsoft has made with ‘Location and Sensors’ in Windows 7 is that they did not include any geolocation service provider.

Google ChromeIE8

When it comes to Flash, some people like it  because they can play flash-only games. However, some hate it because of performance issues, especially on Mac, not to mention its absence on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch.
