How To Restore Default Windows 7 Power Plans

<Category: Microsoft, Windows> No comment

This is a rare thing to happen but sometimes, due to OEM crap ware, the power plans in Windows 7 (or Vista, if that’s your thing ) either disappear or are renamed to something else than what they are in a clean Windows 7 install. Recently, due to a certain HP app, the High Performance power plan just disappeared from my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition install on my notebook and I was just left with 2 options for power plans, Balance and Power saver. Upon doing a little research, I found the fix for this.

Apple have released an update to iTunes, version 10.1.1 which contains a few important bug fixes. I haven’t faced any of these issues but it’s always good to stay up to date just to be safe. The update is really small, just 39.4 MB as compared to the huge updates we normally get for iTunes.

Internet Explorer 9 Beta Review

<Category: Internet Explorer, Microsoft> 3 Comments

It’s been a few days since Internet Explorer 9 Beta was made available for download for Windows Vista and Windows 7 in many different languages. Microsoft did some major changes to the UI and the underlying rendering engine as well making it way faster than any before as well as more standards compliant. How a JavaScript engine is integrated into the browser is as important as the engine itself for real-world JavaScript and HTML5 performance. Microsoft started from the premise that the modern web will deliver HTML5 experiences. Accordingly, Internet Explorer 9’s Acid3 score has continued to rise and it now scores 95/100 which is totally GOOD.

The next time you get hacked using IE 6, blame yourself, not Microsoft

<Category: Internet Explorer, Microsoft> Only 1 comment

Internet Explorer 6 is one of the most hated web browsers in the world, or let me be harsh and say the truth: it is the most hated browser in the world. Why is Internet Explorer 6 still used despite being so vulnerable to security attacks? Most websites don’t even support IE6 and vice versa because it’s that old. Was it always this way? No. Internet Explorer 6 was a good browser in its days (according to some) – the bygone days of 2001 to 2006 ( when Internet Explorer 7 was released ). But even Motorola Razor was an awesome cell phone in the past. Would you use it now when you have better alternatives?

Firefox 4.0 Windows Theme Mockups

<Category: Internet> 6 Comments

A few day ago, Firefox 3.7 mockups were discovered which made good use of Aero Glass available in Windows Vista and 7. Now, mockups for Firefox 4.0 have surfaced on the Mozilla Wiki which aren’t too different than the previous ones, but show some interesting new additions to the UI. Two versions are proposed, the conventional Tabs on bottom, and the Chrome like tabs on top. The stop and go buttons as well as the location of Tools button really seems inspired from Google Chrome. After Safari 4, Firefox seems to be taking some lessons from Chrome over browser UI.

Check out the complete mockups below. But let’s hope that they fix the memory issues with Firefox before changing the UI.
