Newer pictures of the Zune HD have been emerged, thanks to a Zune MVP on Twitter. The pictures were apparently removed in fear of NDA as said by the source but he was smart enough to download them
. The pictures don’t show much new though, so if you’re hoping to see any apps, games or even the browser in action, you’ll be disappointed. But, the images show a sexy black Zune HD that you can and will fall in love with at first sight! Also, they show the HD Radio UI as well as some eye candy album art navigation. Enjoy the pictures below!

The folks at Engadget just keep getting their hands on the Zune HD, one way or the other. They’ve got another new hands on video of the Zune HD up and it shows the same eye candy that we’ve already seen. As you’ll see in the video, the Zune HD is slimmer than the iPhone, and looks really small in the user’s hands. Yes, there’s nothing else new to see in the video if you’ve already seen the past hands on videos. I can’t wonder why they couldn’t just use the browser in the video for demonstration. Anyhow, here’s the video below of the Zune HD with all its Tegra powered goodness. Read more...

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs and tweets lately on how Zune HD is Microsoft’s reply to iPod Touch. Even some people from Microsoft have been labeling it as an iPod Touch killer, which is totally ridiculous. Just because it has a browser and multi-touch, doesn’t mean it falls in the same category of devices as Touch. It is more of a competitor to Sony Walkman and Samsung’s PMP than the iPod Touch. Here are my reasons:
( keep in mind this list is subject to the announcement of any possible app store for Zune HD and other feature announcements)
1. App Store
Sure, it’s called an iPod. But it’s not just a device made for listening to music and watching videos. It works with almost all of the (approximately) 50,000 applications in the App Store, which as Apple says it, ‘Solve life’s dilemma’s, one application at a time’. It’s very difficult to compete with that. Microsoft might have to start from scratch if they decide not to bring Windows Mobile Marketplace to Zune HD. Even if they do, the developer support for App Store is very strong and a force to reckon with.
2. User Interface
Look at the UI of an iPod Touch and then look at the one on a Zune HD. Which one looks more suited to applications? The UI on Zune HD doesn’t even look as if it has been made keeping any sort of application support in mind. Heck, it doesn’t even have a clock! If somehow it does, a user will have to dig deep into sub menus. ‘More’ seems to be the only place where they might have applications or games. I might be wrong and the final UI could change but at the moment, it looks far from giving the iPod Touch a run for its money. Read more...

Honestly, this is a really weird thought. Engadget has leaked images of the Zune HD, which looks rendered due to the high level of effects used. It already looks as aimed to compete with the iPod Touch by looking at the somewhat copied inspired design. But, to compete with the iPod Touch, the Zune would need a great browser, app store, a dev platform and many other such features. And since, Apple just used the iPhone platform for the Touch, what will Microsoft do with the Zune? Create a whole new ecosystem including a dev platform, app store and the likes just for the Zune? Or would they cripple Windows Mobile 6.5 for Zune, following Apple’s footsteps for the iPhone OS? I don’t think Windows Mobile 6.5 is such a capable OS though. What do you think? I’ve got great hopes over the potential and some concerns over how it would work, for the new Zune HD. Read more...
