YouTube Kids is a new app by Google, for iOS and Android which makes it easy to find and watch children friendly shows, channels, playlists and videos. It also allows parents to enforce restrictions on how their kids can use the app.
YouTube is a the biggest online video streaming website in the world and no matter how strong the restrictions are for adult content, there are always inappropriate videos available on the website. It’s always risky to let your kids browse YouTube freely because a few clicks can lead you to the dark side of Youtube. Google aims to make YouTube more friendly for kids by introducing the YouTube Kids app for iOS and Android, smartphones and tablets.
The design is simple and straight forward so kids can easily learn how to use it. The video content in the app is available from sources such as Dreamworks and Sesame Street, to name a few.
To give parents peace of mind, content is screened and analysed automatically by YouTube so that anything deemed inappropriate for kids is filtered out. Just in case, any such video passes through, parents can easily report them to Youtube. Parents can also access the password protected settings to disable search or set timer, so that the app automatically disabled after a certain time period.
The app is available for free and is a must have for families with small children.
P.S. For the regular version of YouTube for Android, Google has rolled out an update that brings video trimming, previews and quicker uploads to the app.
