Apple is reportedly preparing its next wave of iPad updates, beginning with a new OLED iPad mini expected to launch in October. According to a new Bloomberg report, refreshed versions of the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro, and Apple Pencil are expected to follow throughout 2027.
The upcoming iPad mini is expected to be the biggest upgrade to Apple’s smallest tablet in years. Codenamed J510, it will reportedly feature an OLED display for the first time, bringing the same display technology found in the latest iPhone and iPad Pro models to the iPad mini lineup.
Moving to OLED should deliver higher contrast, deeper blacks, improved HDR performance, and better power efficiency compared to the LCD display used in the current iPad mini. Bloomberg reports that Apple is targeting an October 2026 launch for the device, offering the clearest release window yet.
The current iPad mini was last updated in October 2024. Apple recently increased its starting price from $499 to $599 as part of broader price adjustments across its product lineup, and the addition of an OLED display could push the next model’s price even higher.
Bloomberg also shared Apple’s reported roadmap for the rest of the iPad lineup.
The next entry-level iPad, codenamed J581, is now expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027. Rather than introducing a major redesign, Apple is reportedly focusing on a faster processor while continuing to use an LCD display. Bloomberg did not specify the chip, though previous reports have suggested the upgrade could bring support for Apple Intelligence.
Apple is also planning refreshed 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models for spring 2027. The report says the new models will retain their current sizes, while Apple continues development of a future OLED iPad Air.
The iPad Pro is also expected to receive updated models during the same spring 2027 timeframe. Bloomberg did not reveal any major hardware changes, although previous reports have suggested Apple is developing additional improvements for its flagship tablet.
Alongside the new iPads, Apple is reportedly preparing updated Apple Pencil models for release next year. Earlier reports have suggested the next-generation accessories could feature replaceable batteries.
If the reported timeline proves accurate, the OLED iPad mini will kick off Apple’s next wave of tablet updates before refreshed iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro, and Apple Pencil models arrive throughout 2027.
