Instagram Replace Audio Lets You Change Music on Old Posts Without Losing Engagement

Instagram is rolling out Replace Audio, a new feature that lets users change the music on photo posts and carousels they’ve already published. Instead of deleting a post and uploading it again with a different song, you can now swap the audio while keeping the original post.

Until now, changing the music on an Instagram post meant starting over. Deleting and reposting also meant losing the post’s likes, comments, shares, saves, and accumulated reach. Early reports suggest Replace Audio keeps all of that intact, making it much easier to update older posts.

How Instagram Replace Audio Works

If the feature is available on your account, open an existing post or carousel, tap the three-dot menu, select Edit, then tap the existing audio to choose a different song from Instagram’s music library.

Only the music changes. Your caption, comments, likes, shares, saves, and existing engagement remain on the post, so you don’t have to rebuild its performance from scratch.

No More Deleting and Reposting Posts

There are plenty of reasons to change the music on an older post. A song might no longer fit the content, it could disappear because of licensing changes, or the audio may be muted after a copyright claim.

Replace Audio lets you fix those issues without removing the original post. It’s especially useful for creators and businesses that regularly update older content or rely on engagement metrics.

Keep in mind that Instagram’s existing music licensing rules still apply. Business accounts may continue to have access to a smaller royalty-free music library than personal and creator accounts.

Availability

Replace Audio is rolling out gradually, so it may not appear on every Instagram account right away.

Early user reports suggest availability varies by region, account type, and in some cases whether a post’s original audio was affected by copyright restrictions. If you don’t see the option yet, it should become available as Meta expands the rollout.
