Google launches Pixel Watch 4 with brighter display, new health sensors, and Gemini AI integration

Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 4 alongside the Pixel 10 series, marking the company’s most advanced wearable yet. The new smartwatch focuses on health tracking, safety features, and deeper integration with Google’s AI ecosystem, while also improving durability and repairability.

Pixel Watch 4

The Pixel Watch 4 is designed to go head-to-head with the Apple Watch Series 10, offering upgraded sensors, satellite connectivity for emergencies, and AI-driven coaching powered by Fitbit integration.

Design and display

The Pixel Watch 4 introduces a brighter, curvier display that makes information easier to read in all lighting conditions. The screen can reach up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, improving visibility outdoors, and supports a 60Hz refresh rate for smooth animations. It maintains a compact circular design but features slimmer bezels compared to previous models.

Durability has also been improved with sapphire crystal glass and an aluminum body. Google has emphasized easier repairability, a step forward compared to earlier Pixel Watches and Apple’s recent focus on sustainability.

Health and fitness tracking

Health features remain central to the Pixel Watch 4. The device offers:

  • Enhanced heart rate and SpO₂ sensors for more accurate health readings.
  • AI-powered Fitbit coaching, delivering personalized insights and workout guidance.
  • Sleep tracking with improved accuracy.
  • Stress detection with guided breathing exercises.

The watch’s AI tools provide proactive suggestions, such as recommending recovery time or hydration after workouts.

Safety and connectivity

The Pixel Watch 4 adds new satellite SOS capabilities, allowing users to connect with emergency services even when outside of mobile coverage. Fall detection, crash detection, and emergency sharing features are also built in.

Connectivity options include LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6, NFC, and GPS. Google Wallet and Google Maps are fully integrated, while Gemini AI provides contextual assistance for messaging, navigation, and reminders.

Performance and battery

The smartwatch is powered by a variant of the Tensor G5 chip, optimized for wearables. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, enabling smoother app performance and offline media support.

The Pixel Watch 4 houses a 420mAh battery, offering all-day use with continuous health tracking enabled. Fast charging allows up to 50% charge in 30 minutes, with full recharge in about an hour.

Software: Wear OS 6 with Gemini AI

Running on Wear OS 6, the Pixel Watch 4 brings Gemini AI into the experience. Users can receive proactive prompts, manage tasks, and use AI to summarize notifications. Google Assistant is also enhanced with on-device intelligence for faster responses.

Colors and finishes

The Pixel Watch 4 is available in three finishes:

  • Matte Black
  • Silver
  • Champagne Gold

Each model is paired with a range of interchangeable bands including silicone, leather, and metal options.

Price and release date

The Pixel Watch 4 is available for pre-order now and officially launches on August 28 in select markets. Pricing starts at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $399 for the LTE variant.

A direct challenge to Apple Watch

With brighter displays, new health sensors, satellite SOS, and AI-driven coaching, the Pixel Watch 4 positions itself as Google’s strongest response yet to the Apple Watch Series 10. While Apple’s ecosystem remains more mature, Google’s focus on AI and health makes the Pixel Watch 4 a compelling alternative for Android users.
