Apple Maps in iOS 26 now includes a Visited Places feature that keeps a secure history of the locations you have been to, such as restaurants, shops, parks, and landmarks. This makes it easy to look back on trips, remember local favorites, and even share places with friends. Unlike the old Recents list, Visited Places offers a structured timeline of your activity that can be filtered, searched, and organized into guides.
Apple built the feature with privacy at its core. Visited Places are stored on-device, synced securely across your Apple devices, and protected with end-to-end encryption so they cannot be read by Apple. You also remain in control of how long data is saved and can remove locations individually or clear your history completely.
When you update to iOS 26, Maps will prompt you to enable the feature. If you skip this step, you can turn it on manually through Settings.
