Apple has unveiled the new iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, a slim accessory designed exclusively for the iPhone Air. Announced alongside the device, it revives Apple’s MagSafe battery lineup after two years, while introducing a design tailored specifically for the Air’s ultra-thin profile.
Unlike the earlier MagSafe Battery Pack, this new version is not compatible with iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple confirmed the shape of the pack is made to align with the taller and thinner iPhone Air, and attaching it to other iPhones would interfere with their larger camera housings. This makes it the first MagSafe battery accessory designed with a single iPhone model in mind.
According to Apple, the iPhone Air delivers up to 27 hours of video playback on its own. With the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery attached, playback time extends to as much as 40 hours. Streaming video endurance also rises from 22 hours to 35 hours, offering a significant improvement for users who need longer usage times on the go.
Charging performance is also a step up from the previous generation. The iPhone Air MagSafe Battery supports up to 12W wireless charging through MagSafe, while connecting the accessory to a 20W or higher USB-C adapter allows for charging speeds of up to 20W. Apple’s intelligent power management ensures that the system optimizes when to draw from the iPhone or the pack. A USB-C port is included to power smaller accessories such as AirPods.
The iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is priced at $99. Pre-orders begin on September 12, with availability starting September 19. Apple is positioning the accessory as the ideal companion for iPhone Air users who want to maintain the device’s slim design while adding meaningful gains in endurance.
For iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro owners, this accessory is not compatible, but compatible third-party MagSafe battery solutions will be available in the market.
